Francisco Pizarro de Rosa Arciniega-Un intento de legitimación de la voz de una historiadora
2022
A reading of the historical novel Francisco Pizarro, written by the Peruvian Rosa Arciniega in 1936, is proposed. Through the analysis of the work, we will reflect on the relationship of the writer with the national historiography and with the ideal of a woman who dominated Latin American political and cultural discourse in the first half of the 20th century. From this, we seek to identify the place that the author constructs for herself within the intellectual field.
Ancient wood of the Acqualadrone rostrum: Materials history through gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and sulfur X-ray absorption spectroscopy
2012
In 2008 the rostrum from an ancient warship was recovered from the Mediterranean near Acqualadrone, Sicily. To establish its provenance and condition, samples of black and brown rostrum wood were examined using sulfur K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). GC/MS of pyrolytic volatiles yielded only guaiacyl derivatives, indicating construction from pinewood. A derivatized extract of black wood yielded forms of abietic acid and sandaracopimaric acid consistent with pine pitch waterproofing. Numerical fits to the sulfur K-edge XAS spectra showed that about 65% of the endogenous sulfur consisted of thiols and disulfides. Elemental sulfur was…
Sildenafil protects epithelial cell through the inhibition of xanthine oxidase and the impairment of ROS production
2009
Recent reports suggest that xanthine oxidase (XO), a modified form of the native xanthine dehydrogenase enzyme, plays an important role in various forms of ischemic and vascular injuries, inflammatory diseases, and chronic heart failure. The XO inhibitors allopurinol and its oxidation product oxypurinol held considerable promises in the treatment of these conditions both in experimental animals and in human clinical trials. More recently, an endothelium-based protective effect of sildenafil, a well-known type-5 phosphodiesterase inhibitor, has been reported in preconditioning prior to ischemia/reperfusion in healthy human subjects. Based on the structural similarities between allopurinol an…
Léon Rosenthal, Chroniques d'art de l'Humanité, 1909-1917
2012

Variability of Christmas rose (Helleborus niger L.) populations and its potential use in genetic breeding
2005
International audience; The Christmas rose (Helleborus niger L.) is widely distributed in Southern and Central Europe, and Slovenia is probably one of the centers of its diversity. The investigation was aimed at evaluating phenotypic diversity among selected wild populations in Slovenia and neighboring Croatia. Some of the analyzed traits expressed relatively very high variation (e.g., number of leaves per plant, number of inflorescences per plant). The variation ranges of some of the analyzed traits were found to be wider than those mentioned in the literature. Statistical analysis indicated that variability was more expressed within than between populations. In terms of present market req…
