Tralci d’argento: busti reliquari e paliotti in Sicilia tra Sei e Settecento
2022
Some silver works made in Sicily between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are investigated, characterized by similar decorative repertoires whi…
Condictio e causa actionis
2014
Since the publication of Julius Baron’s book about the condictiones in 1881, the condictio of the Roman formulary procedure is considered as an ‘abstract’ action. In Baron’s opinion this peculiar nature was due to the fact that its formula never mentioned – and could not mention – the basis of the claim neither in its intentio, nor in a demonstratio, nor in a praescriptio. By considering the two formulae of condictio certae pecuniae recorded in TPSulp. 31, this paper focuses on the concept of causa actionis in order to call into question the gospel of the ‘abstractness’ of the formular condictio. A new analysis of the sources leads to the conclusion that in the formulary procedure the condi…

A long-snouted late Eifelian arthrodire from Aragon (Spain)
2021
Carolowilhelmina geognostica Carls, 1995 is a large arthrodire (Placodermi) from the Tortodus kockelianus Conodont Zone, late Eifelian, in the Eastern Iberian Cordillera in southern Aragon. The somewhat incomplete but articulated skull is preserved, showing a long tubular rostral plate, very small postnasal plates, low toothless inferognathals, and a small, slender and flat parasphenoid. Supraorbital and central sensory lines meet their antimeres at the midline of the skull, forming a straight double line. Lines along the ventral surface of the rostral plate probably belong to the suborbital branches of the infraorbital sensory lines. The combination of characters of Carolowilhelmina points…
Root and Basal Stem Rot of Rose Caused by Phytophthora citrophthora in Italy
2011
Approximately 800 ha of cut flower roses are cultivated for commercial production in Italy. During autumn of 2004 in an experimental greenhouse in western Sicily (southern Italy), 60% of 2-year-old plants of rose cv. Red France on Rosa indica cv. Major rootstock grown in soil showed leaf chlorosis and wilt. A dark brown lesion lined by a water-soaked area was noticeable at the stem base near the soil surface. Root rot was found consistently associated with aboveground symptoms and plants collapsed within 4 months after the appearance of the first symptoms. The same symptoms were observed sporadically on rose plants of the same cultivar during the last 6 years in commercial nurseries in wes…
Deep ROSAT-HRI observation of the cD galaxy NGC 1399 in the fornax cluster: Morphology and dynamical status of the X-ray halo
2002
We present the results of a deep (167 ks) observation of the NGC 1399/NGC 1404 field obtained from data collected between 1993 and 1996 with the ROSAT High Resolution Imager. We take advantage of the 5" resolution of the HRI to study in detail the structure of the galactic halo and to relate the results to those obtained at larger scales with poorer resolution instruments. We discuss possible non-equilibrium scenarios that may explain the global halo structure. We also find evidence of interactions between the nuclear radio source and the inner gaseous halo.
Isolation and identification of roseotoxin S from cultures of the fungus Trichothecium roseum
1988
The structure of reseotoxin S, a new cyclodepsipeptide of the fungus Trichothecium roseum, is described. It consists of three amino acids and two hydroxy acids. Besides the structure, possibilities of proof and isolation as well as analytical data are given.
The Roots of Chaadaev’s Philosophical Thought
2016
Pierwsza eurocentryczna koncepcja filozofii historii została stworzona przez Piotra Czaadajewa. Według tego chrześcijańskiego myśliciela jej ideał najlepiej odzwierciedlała średniowieczna Europa. Czaadajew czytał Kanta, Hegla i Schellinga, ale to francuscy filozofowie katoliccy: de Maistre, de Bonald, Ballanche, Chateaubriand i Lamennais, wywarli na niego największy wpływ. Specyficzny rodzaj konserwatywnego okcydentalizmu Czaadajewa charakteryzowało oskarżenie społeczeństwa rosyjskiego o brak tradycji, które mogłyby identyfikować Rosję z historią Europy. Według Czaadajewa kulturę rosyjską charakteryzuje brak ciągłości; nowe pomysły pojawiają się niespodziewanie, są pozbawione podstaw i brak…
