The nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) drug development graveyard: established hurdles and planning for future success

2020

Contains fulltext : 229341.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) INTRODUCTION: Numerous pharmacological compounds that target the different molecular targets involved in the pathobiology of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are currently in clinical testing. So far, there are no regulatory approvals. AREAS COVERED: This paper sheds light on the molecular pathways involved in NASH and the drugs targeting these pathways. We have identified 10 compounds whose clinical development program has been halted. Moreover, we explore early phase clinical trials and dissect the reasons for termination of development. EXPERT OPINION: The main goal of NASH pharmacotherapy is to halt or reverse hepati…

GDF11 induces mild hepatic fibrosis independent of metabolic health

2020

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Growth Differentiation Factor 11 (GDF11) is an anti-aging factor, yet its role in liver diseases is not established. We evaluated the role of GDF11 in healthy conditions and in the transition from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). RESULTS: GDF11 mRNA levels positively correlated with NAFLD activity score and with CPT1, SREBP, PPAR? and Col1A1 mRNA levels, and associated to portal fibrosis, in morbidly obese patients with NAFLD/NASH. GDF11-treated mice showed mildly exacerbated hepatic collagen deposition, accompanied by weight loss and without changes in liver steatosis or inflammation. GDF11 triggered ALK5-dependent SMAD2/…

Evolución histórica de la autonomía de la voluntad en el Derecho matrimonial

2021

The autonomy of the will or power of self-regulation of relationships derived from marriage is a subject that is on the rise and that we can qualify as novel. More and more couples are opting to proceed making use of this power to self-regulate both personal and property effects derived from their union or its future breakdown. In the Spanish legal system there is no precise and complete regulation of the subject, without all these figures being equally legislated, although all are admitted without any doubt by jurisprudence. In recent years there has been an evolution of Family law, traditionally very reluctant to give space to self-regulation. Our Constitution marks a turning point by cha…

A smart and operator independent system to delineate tumours in Positron Emission Tomography scans

2018

Abstract Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging has an enormous potential to improve radiation therapy treatment planning offering complementary functional information with respect to other anatomical imaging approaches. The aim of this study is to develop an operator independent, reliable, and clinically feasible system for biological tumour volume delineation from PET images. Under this design hypothesis, we combine several known approaches in an original way to deploy a system with a high level of automation. The proposed system automatically identifies the optimal region of interest around the tumour and performs a slice-by-slice marching local active contour segmentation. It automa…

The Underrepresentation of Female Personalities in EDM : A Closer Look into the “Boys Only”-Genre

2017

Master's thesis Music Management MU501 - University of Agder 2017 EDM, or Electronic Dance Music for short, has become a big and lucrative genre. The once nerdy and uncool phenomenon has become quite the profitable business. Superstars along the lines of Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Avicii, and Tiësto have become the rock stars of today, and for many, the role models for tomorrow. This is though not the case for females. The British magazine DJ Mag has an annual contest, where listeners and fans of EDM can vote for their favorite DJs. In 2016, the top 100-list only featured three women; Australian twin duo NERVO and Ukrainian hardcore DJ Miss K8. Nor is it easy to find female DJs and acts o…

Classics in the Cloud : A discussion of the problems of classical music and streaming

2017

Master's thesis Music Management MU501 - University of Agder 2017 Streaming services have become the main method of music consumption the last couple of years, and the classical audience have moved to the cloud as well. This paper aims to uncover some of the issues that classical consumers encounter while using streaming services, what the reasons may be that there are problems, and discussing possible solution to benefit either the connoisseur or the novice listener. It brings a topic there is little literature on into the light, and includes the niche genre, and possibly “the world's oldest” genre, into the academic discourse of the music industry today. My own experience with streaming c…

Freedom in interpretation and Piano sonata no. 7 by Sergei Prokofiev : a comparison of two approaches to piano interpretation

2012

Masteroppgave i utøvende musikk, klassisk- Universitetet i Agder 2012 This thesis is an exploration in the field of music interpretation. In it, two different performances of Piano Sonata No. 7 by Sergei Prokofiev are compared and analysed. The discussion of findings is conducted in a dialectic way, by confronting two possible solutions to the problems of interpretation of said piece. The thesis employs different scientific methods, relying on analytical and observation methods as the main source of data.

The interpretation of J.S. Bach's Sonata no.1 in G minor for solo violin

2012

Masteroppgave i utøvende musikk, klassisk- Universitetet i Agder 2012 This master thesis explores different aspects of the performance of the Sonata No.1 in G-minor BWV 1001 by Johann Sebastian Bach. The research is divided in two parts, each using different methods of research. The first part of the research (written by Stevan Sretenovic) is based on the comparison in performance practice between Baroque and modern violin. The second part (written by Jelena Adamovic) uses three different recordings of the Sonata in order to compare different approaches in performing. The findings and observations of both researches are presented in the Conclusion as well as on the CDs.
