Fully representable and*-semisimple topological partial*-algebras

We continue our study of topological partial *-algebras, focusing our attention to *-semisimple partial *-algebras, that is, those that possess a {multiplication core} and sufficiently many *-representations. We discuss the respective roles of invariant positive sesquilinear (ips) forms and representable continuous linear functionals and focus on the case where the two notions are completely interchangeable (fully representable partial *-algebras) with the scope of characterizing a *-semisimple partial *-algebra. Fixed Points in Topological *-Algebras of Unbounded Operators

We discuss some results concerning fixed point equations in the setting of topological *-algebras of unbounded operators. In particular, an existence result is obtained for what we have called {\em weak $\tau$ strict contractions}, and some continuity properties of these maps are discussed. We also discuss possible applications of our procedure to quantum mechanical systems.

New spaces of matrices with operator entries

In this paper, we will consider matrices with entries in the space of operators $\mathcal{B}(H)$, where $H$ is a separable Hilbert space and consider the class of matrices that can be approached in the operator norm by matrices with a finite number of diagonals. We will use the Schur product with Toeplitz matrices generated by summability kernels to describe such a class and show that in the case of Toeplitz matrices it can be identified with the space of continuous functions with values in $\mathcal B(H)$. Haar Type and Carleson Constants

For a collection ℰ of dyadic intervals, a Banach space X, and p∈(1, 2], we assume the upper l p estimates where x I ∈X, and h I denotes the L ∞ normalized Haar function supported on I. We determine the minimal requirement on the size of ℰ such that these estimates imply that X is of Haar type p. The characterization is given in terms of the Carleson constant of ℰ.

Almost disjoint families of countable sets and separable complementation properties

We study the separable complementation property (SCP) and its natural variations in Banach spaces of continuous functions over compacta $K_{\mathcal A}$ induced by almost disjoint families ${\mathcal A}$ of countable subsets of uncountable sets. For these spaces, we prove among others that $C(K_{\mathcal A})$ has the controlled variant of the separable complementation property if and only if $C(K_{\mathcal A})$ is Lindel\"of in the weak topology if and only if $K_{\mathcal A}$ is monolithic. We give an example of ${\mathcal A}$ for which $C(K_{\mathcal A})$ has the SCP, while $K_{\mathcal A}$ is not monolithic and an example of a space $C(K_{\mathcal A})$ with controlled and continuous SCP …

A multilayer anisotropic plate model with warping functions for the study of vibrations reformulated from Woodcock's work

Abstract In this paper, a suitable model for static and dynamic analysis of inhomogeneous anisotropic multilayered plates is described. This model takes into account the variations of the transverse shear strains through the thickness of the plate by means of warping functions. Warping functions are determined by enforcing kinematic and static assumptions at the interfaces. This model leads to: a 10×10 stiffness matrix coupling to each other the membrane strains, the bending and torsion curvatures, and the x and y-derivatives of the transverse shear strains; and a classical 2×2 transverse shear stiffness matrix. Fundamental isomorphism theorems for quantum groups

2017

The lattice of subgroups of a group is the subject of numerous results revolving around the central theme of decomposing the group into "chunks" (subquotients) that can then be compared to one another in various ways. Examples of results in this class would be the Noether isomorphism theorems, Zassenhaus' butterfly lemma, the Schreier refinement theorem for subnormal series of subgroups, the Dedekind modularity law, and last but not least the Jordan-H\"older theorem. We discuss analogues of the above-mentioned results in the context of locally compact quantum groups and linearly reductive quantum groups. Circular law for sparse random regular digraphs

Fix a constant $C\geq 1$ and let $d=d(n)$ satisfy $d\leq \ln^{C} n$ for every large integer $n$. Denote by $A_n$ the adjacency matrix of a uniform random directed $d$-regular graph on $n$ vertices. We show that, as long as $d\to\infty$ with $n$, the empirical spectral distribution of appropriately rescaled matrix $A_n$ converges weakly in probability to the circular law. This result, together with an earlier work of Cook, completely settles the problem of weak convergence of the empirical distribution in directed $d$-regular setting with the degree tending to infinity.
