Synthesis and antiproliferative mechanism of action of pyrrolo[3′,2′:6,7] cyclohepta[1,2-d]pyrimidin-2-amines as singlet oxygen photosensitizers

A new series of pyrrolo[3′,2′:6,7]cyclohepta[1,2-d]pyrimidin-2-amines, was conveniently prepared using a versatile and high yielding multistep sequence. A good number of derivatives was obtained and the cellular photocytotoxicity was evaluated in vitro against three different human tumor cell lines with EC50 (0.08–4.96 μM) values reaching the nanomolar level. Selected compounds were investigated by laser flash photolysis. The most photocytotoxic derivative, exhibiting a fairly long-lived triplet state (τ ∼ 7 μs) and absorbance in the UV–Vis, was tested in the photo-oxidations of 9,10-anthracenedipropionic acid (ADPA) by singlet oxygen. Although plant-based diets provide well-established physical and environmental health benefits, omitting meat or meat products has also been associated with a risk of being deficient in specific nutrients, such as iron. As data on the iron status among Norwegian vegans, vegetarians and pescatarians are lacking, the present study aimed to assess iron status in these groups of healthy adults. Dyslipidemia and altered iron metabolism are typical features of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 7 (PCSK7) gene variation has been associated with circulating lipids and liver damage during iron overload. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of the PCSK7 rs236918 variant on NAFLDrelated traits in 1,801 individuals from the Liver Biopsy Cohort (LBC), 500,000 from the UK Biobank Cohort (UKBBC), and 4,580 from the Dallas Heart Study (DHS). The Norwegian Food and Health (FH) school subject aims to develop students' ability to understand the association between diet and health. Research on FH in Norway indicates that the main focus today is on cooking and the development of practical cooking skills, leaving little emphasis on activities related to the more theoretical aspects of the curriculum. To increase students’ knowledge and skills regarding nutrition and health, we aimed to evaluate three newly developed student-activating learning tasks. Objective: The Norwegian National Action Plan for a Healthier Diet calls for discussion of new ways to communicate health information. An already established and important arena in which to do so is school, in the Food and Health (FH) subject in particular. The aim of this study was to investigate how Norwegian students experience the FH subject, and how they believe it impacts on their everyday lives. This article reconsiders the concept of response strength for reasons linked to the foundations of a natural science of behavior. The notion of response strength is implicit in many radical behaviorists’ work.
