Adsorption of anionic dyes onto natural, thermally and chemically modified smectite clays

Abstract The aim of this study was to determine the adsorption capacity of the smectite clays (from the overburden of the lignite deposit in Belchatow) for two anionic dyes, i.e. Reactive Blue 81 (RB-81) and Direct Blue 74 (DB-74). Additionally, the influence of the thermal and chemical (acid and alkali) clay modifications on the amount of bonded dyes was investigated. The adsorption capacity of the clay (natural and modified) was different for studied dyes and depended on the initial concentration and modification type. This dissertation examines the impact that the materiality of institutions has on patients and staff. Fieldwork has been carried out at five district psychiatric centres (Distriktspsykiatriske sentra, DPS) that were originally built as tuberculosis institutions. The patients’ and employees’ experiences of being present in the physical and social space of these institutions has been examined, interpreted and reflected upon. The paper provides knowledge about the significance institutions’ materiality and inner life has on the informants, and how the informants influence the materiality. Psychosocial Predictors of Drop-Out from Organised Sport: A Prospective Study in Adolescent Soccer.

In recent years an increased drop-out rate in adolescents’ soccer participation has been observed. Given the potentially adverse consequences of drop-out from soccer, more information about risk factors for drop-out is warranted. In the current study, Classification and Regression Tree (CRT) analysis was used to investigate demographic and motivational factors associated with an increased risk of drop-out from adolescent soccer. The results of this study indicate that older age, experiencing less autonomy support from the coach, less intrinsic motivation, being female, and lower socioeconomic status are factors associated with an increased risk of drop-out. I denne artikkelen tar forfatterne opp til diskusjon Verdens helseorganisasjon (WHO) sin anbefaling for barn og unge om 60 minutter fysisk aktivt daglig, og et eksempel på hvordan denne helsebaserte anbefalingen blir innført som tiltak i norske skoler. Ved hjelp av sosiologiske begreper analyserer forfatterne hvordan fenomener, som for eksempel manglende fysisk aktivitet blant barn og unge, blir formulert som et samfunnsmessig problem og knyttes til handlinger og sosiale grupper.
