Quantitative analysis of oat by Infrared spectroscopy

1999

Oat products as a source of soluble dietary fibre have shown to exhibit distinct hypocholesterolemic and hypoglycaemic effects in humans and recently have become a key focus of the nutrition and medical communities. Interest in assaying the contents of (1→3), (1→4)-β-D-ghican, referred to hereafter as β-glucan, in barley, malt and oat has been increasing because of its nutritional and technological importance [1].

Amelioration of Chemotherapy-Induced Intestinal Mucositis by Orally Administered Probiotics in a Mouse Model

2015

Background and Aims Intestinal mucositis is a frequently encountered side effect in oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy. No well-established or up to date therapeutic strategies are available. To study a novel way to alleviate mucositis, we investigate the effects and safety of probiotic supplementation in ameliorating 5-FU-induced intestinal mucositis in a mouse model. Methods Seventy-two mice were injected saline or 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) intraperitoneally daily. Mice were either orally administrated daily saline, probiotic suspension of Lactobacillus casei variety rhamnosus (Lcr35) or Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum (LaBi). Diarrhea score, pro-inflammatory cyto…

Degradazione termica di biomasse lignocellulosiche in acido fosforico

2013

Influence of the Main Phospholipid (MPL) fromThermoplasma Acidophilumand of Liposomes from MPL on Living Cells: Cytotoxicity and Mutagenicity

1993

AbstractLiposomes of the main phospholipid (MPL) from the archaebacterium Thermplasma acidophilum were investigated for their interference with living cells. Growth of mouse lymphoma cells L5178Y, permanent hamster fibroblasts V79, Ehrlich-mouse-ascites tumor (EMAT) cells and a variety of other celltypes was not influenced by these liposomes. Mutagenicity and antimutagenic efficacy were tested with Salmonella typhimurium TA100 in the “Ames plate-incorporation test”. No cytotoxicity and mutagenicity of liposomes from MPL was detected. The influence of MPL liposomes on ion transport, intracellular pH, electrolytes, membrane potential, energy metabolism, and the biosynthesis of proteins and nu…

Difensil immuno reduces recurrence and severity of tonsillitis in children: A randomized controlled trial

2020

Oral supplements (OS) support the immune system in fighting upper airways infection. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Difensil Immuno (DI) on the recurrence of tonsillitis and fever in children. A multicentric randomized clinical trial was conducted. One-hundred and twenty children with chronic tonsillitis were randomly assigned to group A, B or control. Patients in group A were treated with 10 mL of DI for 90 consecutive days, patients in group B underwent treatment with 15 mL of DI for 45 consecutive days. The following data were collected at baseline (T0), T1 and T2: tonsillitis and fever episodes, tonsillar volume, blood test results. One-way ANOVA was used to analyze within an…

Clinical manifestations and management of four children with Pearson syndrome.

2011

Pearson marrow-pancreas syndrome is a fatal disorder mostly diagnosed during infancy and caused by mutations of mitochondrial DNA. We hereby report on four children affected by Pearson syndrome with hematological disorders at onset. The disease was fatal to three of them and the fourth one, who received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, died of secondary malignancy. In this latter patient transplantation corrected hematological and non-hematological issues like metabolic acidosis, and we therefore argue that it could be considered as a useful option in an early stage of the disease.

The long-term effects of probiotics in the therapy of ulcerative colitis: a clinical study

2016

Aim: Intestinal dysbiosis seems to be the leading cause of inflammatory bowel diseases, and probiotics seems to represent the proper support against their occurrence. Actually, probiotic blends and anti-inflammatory drugs represent a weapon against inflammatory bowel diseases. The present study evaluates the long-term (2 years) effects of combination therapy (mesalazine plus a probiotic blend of Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidus strain BGN4) on ulcerative colitis activity. Method: Sixty patients with moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis were enrolled: 30 of them were treated with a single daily oral administration of mesalazine 1200 mg; 30 pati…
