Protocollo riabilitativo integrato nello sportivo affetto da impingement femoro-acetabolare

2013

Alteration of anion gap during almost total plasma replacement with synthetic colloids in piglets

2000

In ten piglets (body weight 8.2-11.6 kg), acid base, electrolyte and anion gap changes were investigated during almost total plasma replacement with hydroxyethyl starch (HES) and modified fluid gelatin (GEL) in saline solution using a cell saver autotransfusion technique. During the study, there were only moderate acid base changes, but marked disturbances in anion balance. At study end, the mean chloride concentration was significantly higher (mmol/l: normal values 97-108, HES 116 +/- 1.5, GEL 108 +/- 1.1, p0.01) and the mean anion gap was significantly lower in the HES group in comparison to the GEL group (mmol/l: normal values 5-14, HES 3 +/- 1.7, GEL 11.9 +/- 0.9, p0.01). It is conclude…

Topiramate and Metabolic Acidosis in Infants and Toddlers

2002

Summary:  Purpose: Topiramate (TPM) inhibits carbonic anhydrase, with metabolic acidosis as a possible side effect, although this has been reported in only two adult cases. We investigated the acid–base metabolism in infants and toddlers treated with TPM. Methods: Nine infants and toddlers aged 5 months to 2.3 years (median, 6 months) were treated with TPM at maximal doses of 8.2–26 mg/kg/day (median, 11 mg/kg/day). The maximal TPM dose was achieved after 8–35 days (median, 17 days). TPM was given in addition to other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in five cases and as a sole AED in four patients with refractory epilepsy resistant to multiple AEDs. The diagnoses were infantile spasms (n = 5), e…

Capillary enlargement, not sprouting angiogenesis, determines beneficial therapeutic effects and side effects of angiogenic gene therapy.

2010

Aims Currently, it is still unclear which mechanisms drive metabolic benefits after angiogenic gene therapy. The side-effect profile of efficient angiogenic gene therapy is also currently incompletely understood. In this study, the effects of increasing doses of adenoviral (Ad) vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) were evaluated on vascular growth, metabolic benefits, and systemic side effects. Methods and results Adenoviral vascular endothelial growth factor-A or AdLacZ control was injected intramuscularly (109–1011 vp/mL) or intra-arterially (5 × 1011 vp/mL) into rabbit ( n = 102) hindlimb muscles and examined 6 or 14 days later. Blood flow, tissue oedema, metabolic benefits, and…

OATS AND FAT-FREE MILK BASED FUNCTIONAL FOOD PRODUCT

2001

The present study addresses problems and solutions related to new functional bio-active food product creation. Commercial rolled oats and fat-free milk were used as raw materials. Limited enzymatic hydrolysis of oat starch was carried out by α-amylase. The lactic acid bacteria strains Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium sp., and commercial starter cultures ABT-1 were cultivated in enzymatically hydrolysed oat mash. Lactobacillus acidophilus was a more active producer of lactic acid, while Bifidobacterium sp. improved the taste properties. A fat-free milk additive was applied to stabilise the texture of the oat mash, and increase the protein content of the final product. All procedure…

Esposizione a basse dosi di benzene: confronto di indicatori biologici tra soggetti professionalmente esposti e popolazione generale

2007

Exposure to low doses of benzene: biological monitoring exposure in a group of occupational exposed workers and a group of general population. Even if exposure to benzene is considerably decreased in last years, the interest for this cercinogenic agent is still important. Benzene is used as additive in gasoline and it is present in cigarette smoke. Therefore benzene is considered an important toxic agent not only for occupational exposed people, but also for general population, in particular if living in high polluted areas. Aim of the present study is evaluation of trans, trans-muconic acid in urine of workers exposed to benzene and in the general population, making a distinction between s…
