Relazioni interpersonali, immagine corporea ed autostima in adolescenza. Uno studio condotto con studenti degli istituti superiori
2017
Previous research has evidenced the link between body image dissatisfaction, social anxiety, low self-esteem, negative affect and eating disorders in adolescence. The present study aimed to explore the gender differences on body image perception, self-esteem, and relational styles in a group of adolescents and to investigate whether body image and self-esteem predict the development of interpersonal problems in a different way for males and females. Method: Data were obtained from a group (n = 1311) of adolescents (805 males and 506 females), recruited in a high school in Palermo. Participants filled in the BIAI, the IIP-32 and the RSES. Results: Our results confirm the difference between m…
Psychometric properties and clinical applicability of the deq-a in the assessment of adolescent personality
2016
In line with the “two-polarities models” of personality development, Blatt (2008) proposed a “twoconfigurations” model, suggesting that self-definition and relatedness are two fundamental psychological dimensions useful in evaluating the vulnerability factors for psychopathology in adolescence. Based on the adult version of the Depressive Experiences Questionnaire, Blatt and colleagues (1992) developed the DEQ for Adolescents (DEQ-A).
Consensus On Women'S Health Aspects Of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (Pcos)
2012
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in females with a high prevalence. The etiology of this heterogeneous condition remains obscure and its phenotype expression varies. Two, widely cited, previous ESHRE/ASRM-sponsored PCOS consensus workshops focused on diagnosis (published in 2004) and infertility management (published in 2008). The present third PCOS consensus paper summarizes current knowledge and identifies knowledge gaps regarding various women's health aspects of PCOS. Relevant topics addressed-all dealt with in a systematic fashion-include adolescence, hirsutism and acne, contraception, menstrual cycle abnormalities, quality of life, ethnicity, preg…
ADIPONECTIN, LEPTIN, RESISTIN LEVELS IN CYSTIC FIBROSIS ADOLESCENTS
2012
INTRODUCTION: Patients with Cystic Fibrosis, especially in adolescence, could develop endocrine and metabolic complications, related to nutritional state and chronic inflammation. They develop a progressive decrease in lean body mass correlated with the progression of lung disease. Adipose tissue is involved as well and adipocytokines are a possible link between malnutrition and long term complications. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In 24 Cystic Fibrosis adolescents we studied auxological, nutritional, glycometabolic, endocrine patterns, together with leptin, adiponectin and resistin levels. We selected patients not affected by diabetes, insulin resistance, malnutrition, acute inflammatory states s…
GH TREATMENT ADHERENCE IN CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE IMPROVES USING EASYPODTM DEVICE: DATA DEMONSTRATION IN AN ITALIAN CENTRE
2017
Objectives: Poor adherence to GH treatment is one of the pitfalls affecting the treatment efficacy. This study evaluates the GH treatment, using easypodTM in young patients over 6 months of therapy and describes the relationship between treatment efficacy and adherence. Methods: We collected the retrospective data registered in the electronic device easypodTM in 40 patients treated with GH. Number and doses of injection were used to calculate the percentage of treatment adherence. The inclusion criteria were: GH deficiency and the existence of one of the clinical condition in which GH is available: GHD, SGA, chronic renal failure, Turner syndrome. The GH efficacy was evaluated using the hei…
RHEUMATHOLOGIC DISEASES IN ADOLESCENCE: PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE OF A DIFFICULT AGE
2015
Background: Chronic disease significantly interfere with the quality of life at every age, expecially in a period of life characterized by the need to assume a role in the society and the research of a specific identity. Objectives: We realized a plurispecialistic approach to adolescents with rheumatologic diseases, with the figures of neuropsychiatric, psychologists, rheumatologists, endocrinologists, to give an answer to the complex requests of these patients. Methods: We evaluated 20 patients w…
Change, Reliability, and Stability in Self-perceptions in Early Adolescence: A Four-year Follow-up Study
1995
Changes in self-perceptions of fitness, appearance, and self-esteem among adolescents were assessed in a 4-year follow-up study. Both the changes in the mean levels across time (profile analysis), and the changes in the reliability and stability of individual differences (i.e. covariance stability as test-retest correlations) were examined. The subjects (64 boys, 49 girls) were 11 years old at the first annual measurement. Self-esteem was assessed using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, as well as self-assessment questionnaires specifically designed for this study to assess Perceived Fitness and Perceived Appearance. MANOVA-and Simplex-models were used in the analysis. Our results among the…
Adolescent life satisfaction and relationship with adolescent self-esteem and school adjustment
2007
Self-esteem, Defensive Strategies and Social Intelligence in the Adolescence
2012
Abstract A variety of studies documented that self-esteem is related to protective strategies including self-handicapping and causal attributions in the school domain. In particular, these defensive modalities, both proactive and retroactive, refer to some of the maladaptive strategies employed by an individual, respectively before and after performing difficult and threatening tasks, to protect him or herself and maintain a positive self-esteem. Within the theoretical framework of self-regulation, the maintenance and the protection of competency self-images implies the social intelligence model of personality ( Cantor and Kihlstrom, 1987 ). The social intelligence, which includes self-conc…
