Shaping women's agency through temporality in "The life and activity of the holy and blessed teacher Syncletica"

The present article attempts to discuss the relationship between two female characters, Thecla and Syncletica, against the wider theoretical background of temporality as it was perceived and construed through literary texts. Syncletica is portrayed as a ‘disciple’ of Thecla. However, while the apocryphal Acts of Paul and Thecla appear to be pervaded with an eschatological expectation, the Life of Saint Syncletica shows signs of a different temporality. The detailed description of the whole life of Syncletica, with an emphasis on the course of illness, reveals a temporality more focused on the stages of life. The Effect of Music on Movement Perception: Synchresis in Hits for HIIT

Hits for HIIT consists in a research-creation project aiming to produce both musical pieces and training exercises for, on the one hand, optimizing HIIT practice and, on the other, enriching scholarly research on the relations between music and sports. These questions and their related studies have highlighted music/movement relations and the way they are perceived. In this paper we would like to outline how we attempt to build a two-way dialogue between the production of music adapted to HIIT and the design of workouts based on the music.

In the medieval cemetery of the Historic Site of San Juan del Hospital of Valencia is housed a small funeral chapel founded in the late thirteenth century by the knight Arnau de Romaní. Along its cornice there are a series of heads of animals and humans that are one of the few sculptural vestiges inserted into the Romanesque iconographic tradition that are preserved in the city. So far they have not aroused the interest of specialists and no one has dedicated a detailed study to these curious and interesting images located in the marginal spaces of such a beautiful building. The Patres ecclesiae?s works were a frequent topic of discussion at the time in which many humanists stood against the decadent medieval scholastics. That Juan Luis Vives was part of this tradition is demonstrated in his commentaries on Saint Augustine works. Despite its pedagogical function, the scholia of the Valencian author became quite subjective. In this sense, his ecdotic work or, specially, his «criticisms and censures» can be mentioned. Here, Vives strongly disapproves of the intense political and intellectual turmoil of his epoch. Thus, this article is aimed at describing those annotations in which Vives adopts such an Erasmist point of view to comment Augustine?s De Civitate Dei.…

These are two ways of approaching the consumption of sports by spectators and actorIn the last thirty years sport has taken on a very significant meaning in people's lives and albeit with considerable differences both in advanced economic development countries and in developing countries. On an individual level it constituted an area of identity investment when it assumed the shape of “sport spectacle” to be enjoyed fueling the practice of cheering and fandom or constituting the model of a winning lifestyleand the two ways of use can be strongly related to the perception and assessment of the quality of life. The “semantic universes” which however connote sport and “free time sports” have often appeared polarized. Commercial sport and sports professionalism are intertwined with the institutions of economics politics and culture which above all stress its “spectacularity” in order to capture first and foremost the audience. But also the sport of leisure time is intertwined with the actions of the institutions of economics politics and culture with the difference that these stress above all its “healthy value” aimed at the “healthy and rational” investment of time in an activity which improves the quality of life in the short medium and long period. This polarization between the consumption of sport entertainment - commercial sport - and the consumption of sport as a leisure activity - sport for all - has become increasingly interconnected precisely because of the increased collective identity demand via sport. In other words we have witnessed the spread of shape of sports entertainment that recall the importance of sports for psychophysical well-being for integration and social participation for the reduction of social inequalities ethnic and cultural differences and in which the importance assumed was weakened in the show from agonism from competition from the physical confrontation between two contenders or two teams. A sport in which we act with competitors as well as against competitors. And on the other hand we have gradually witnessed the spectacularization of sports in our free time to the point that the sharing of the results obtained through the declination of a competitive spirit that presents itself as directed no longer against other contenders but against its own performance limits it has become the way in which each person makes part of his or her own life spectacular the one he often considers most authentic. Application of a genetic algorithm in calibration of traffic microsimulation models

This chapter describes the genetic algorithm-based calibration procedure for a microscopic traffic simulation model focusing on freeways and modern roundabouts. For both case studies, the genetic algorithm tool in MATLAB® was applied in order to reach the convergence between the outputs from Aimsun microscopic simulator and the observed data. The automatic interaction with Aimsun software was implemented through an original external Python script. Results showed that the genetic algorithm-based calibration procedure gave a better match to the observed data than simple manual calibration and the efficiency of the calibration efforts resulted significantly improved.
