Propiedades psicométricas de la Escala de Ansiedad y Depresión de Goldberg (GADS) en población ecuatoriana

2019

Abstract The objective of the present study was to analyze the psychometric properties of validity and reliability of the Goldberg Anxiety and Depression Scale (GADS) in Ecuadorian university students, since a cultural validation of the instrument has not been found in Ecuador. The study population consisted of a non-probabilistic sample of 600 participants (59.6% women and 40.4% men, M = 21 years, SD = 2.82). The factorial structure was examined with the method of extraction by Parallel Analysis of unweighted least squares (ULS) and of prominent rotation. In both, internal consistency was evaluated by Cronbach's alpha coefficients and composite reliability. Like the original version, both …

Psychometric properties of the “Spanish Burnout Inventory” (SBI): Adaptation and validation in a Portuguese-speaking sample

2013

Abstract Introduction Teaching and nursing are two of the most stressful occupations. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) has some limitations that require using it with caution out of the American and Anglo-Saxon context. To address the problems associated with the MBI was developed the Spanish Burnout Inventory (SBI). Objective This study was designed to assess the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the SBI. Method The sample consisted of 211 teachers and 133 nurses from Portugal. The psychometric properties were examined through the following analyses: confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), reliability (Cronbach's alpha), and concurrent validity with the MBI. Results The f…

Transcultural adaptation and validation of the spanish version of the sexual satisfaction scale for women (SSS-W-E)

2021

Background: Sexual satisfaction is a complex and multidimensional concept. It encompasses physical, emotional, relational and cultural dimensions, and constitutes an essential component of sexual health, as well as an indicator of quality of life and wellbeing. The Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women (SSS-W) was designed in the United States, and it is a valid and reliable tool to measure women’s sexual satisfaction. Aim: The aim of this study was to culturally adapt and translate the SSS-W into Spanish and analyze its psychometric properties. Methods: First, the original instrument was culturally adapted and translated from English to Spanish. Then, we tested the psychometric properties of…

Psychometric Properties of the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20), Derived From Seven Samples

2019

Abstract Context Fatigue is a frequent symptom in patients suffering from chronic diseases. The Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20) is often used to measure fatigue. The aim of this article was to test the scale structure of the questionnaire. Methods The MFI-20 data were obtained from seven samples, including general population samples and samples of patients with different diseases (N between 122 and 1993). Five confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) models were tested for each sample. Results The scale structure postulated by the original test authors could not be confirmed by the CFAs. The inclusion of a method factor which considers the positive versus the negative orientation of t…

Translation and Reliability of the Preliminary Spanish Version of the Sport Imagery Questionnaire

2012

The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability of the preliminary Spanish version of the Sport Imagery Questionnaire (SIQ). The SIQ was developed to examine five cognitive and motivational functions of imagery use. Participants were 81 athletes competing in soccer (n = 43) and roller skating (n = 38), ranging in age from 14 to 29 years (M = 18.10, SD = 3.16). Reliability was evaluated through internal consistency analyses of the scale. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were high indicating that the scale is a reliable instrument for the measurement of imagery use in Spanish athletes. Further psychometric research should now examine factor structure and imagery use across competitive l…

2019

Despite the general consensus regarding the implementation of self-report measures in the training monitoring, there is a lack of research about their applicability and comprehensibility among developing athletes. However, this target group needs special considerations to manage the increasing training demands while maintaining health and performance. This study deals with challenges of applying recovery-stress questionnaires which were validated with adult populations among developing athletes and presents a possible approach to enhance their applicability. In two phases, the Acute Recovery and Stress Scale (ARSS), a 32-adjective list covering eight scales, and the 8-item derived version, …

Psychometric properties of the ‘Spanish Burnout Inventory’ among employees working with people with intellectual disability

2012

Background  Burnout has been recognised as an important stress-related problem for employees working with people with intellectual disability. Researchers have been troubled by some of the psychometric limitations of the questionnaires developed to evaluate burnout. This study was designed to assess the psychometric properties of the Spanish Burnout Inventory. Method  The sample consisted of 697 Spanish employees working in intellectual disability services. The instrument is composed of 20 items distributed in four dimensions: Enthusiasm towards the job, Psychological exhaustion, Indolence and Guilt. The psychometric properties were examined through the following analyses: confirmatory fact…

Calculus Self-Efficacy Inventory : Its Development and Relationship with Approaches to Learning

2019

This study was framed within a quantitative research methodology to develop a concise measure of calculus self-efficacy with high psychometric properties. A survey research design was adopted in which 234 engineering and economics students rated their confidence in solving year-one calculus tasks on a 15-item inventory. The results of a series of exploratory factor analyses using minimum rank factor analysis for factor extraction, oblique promin rotation, and parallel analysis for retaining extracted factors revealed a one-factor solution of the model. The final 13-item inventory was unidimensional with all eigenvalues greater than 0.42, an average communality of 0.74, and a 62.55% variance…

Effect of cilomilast (Ariflo) on TNF-α, IL-8, and GM-CSF release by airway cells of patients with COPD

2003

Background: Inflammation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterised by increased neutrophilic infiltration of the airways. Cilomilast, a novel selective phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor in clinical development for COPD treatment, exerts anti-inflammatory effects. The ability of cilomilast to inhibit the release of neutrophil chemoattractants such as tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-8, and granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) by bronchial epithelial cells and sputum cells isolated from 10 patients with COPD, 14 normal controls, and 10 smokers was investigated. Methods: Bronchial epithelial cells obtained by bronchial brushing and sputum…

Assessment of the reliability, validity, and responsiveness of a Spanish Asthma Quality of Life questionnaire.

1998

A Spanish-language questionnaire designed for measuring the impact of asthma on quality of life in adults was developed. It was derived, by the application of a rigorous translation protocol, from a previously validated, English-language Asthma Quality of Life (AQL) questionnaire which had been developed in Australia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish AQL questionnaire using a cross-sectional and longitudinal design. Two hundred ninety-four clinically stable subjects with asthma (168 women, mean baseline forced expiratory volume in 1 sec [FEV1] = 85% predicted), aged 17-70, attended for the initial baseline assessment. All subjects completed th…
