Purpose Despite the undeniable potential of cell adhesion molecules such as fibronectin to support osteogenic cell responses and consecutive dental implant healing, the most beneficial mode of application onto titanium implant surfaces still requires investigation. A Raft-derived, Pak1-regulated Entry Participates in α2β1 Integrin-dependent Sorting to Caveosomes

We have previously shown that a human picornavirus echovirus 1 (EV1) is transported to caveosomes during 2 h together with its receptor alpha2beta1 integrin. Here, we show that the majority of early uptake does not occur through caveolae. alpha2beta1 integrin, clustered by antibodies or by EV1 binding, is initially internalized from lipid rafts into tubulovesicular structures. These vesicles accumulate fluid-phase markers but do not initially colocalize with caveolin-1 or internalized simian virus 40 (SV40). SummaryThere is evidence that low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is modified by hydrolytic enzymes,and that the product (E-LDL) induces selective production of interleukin 8 (IL-8) in endothelial cells. Since nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) is a major regulator of IL-8 transcription, we studied its activation in endothelial cells treated with E-LDL. AIM: To investigate the safety/efficacy of Boceprevirbased triple therapy in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-G1 menopausal women who were historic relapsers, partial-responders and null-responders. Summary Background Structured training protocols can safely improve skills prior initiating complex surgical procedures such as robotic-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE). As no consensus on a training curriculum for RAMIE has been established so far it is our aim to define a protocol for RAMIE with the Delphi consensus methodology. Cross-talk between insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and estrogen receptor alpha (ER) regulates gene expression in breast cancer cells, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we studied how 17-beta-estradiol (E2) and IGF-1 affect ER transcriptional machinery in MCF-7 cells. E2 treatment stimulated ER loading on the estrogen response element (ERE) in the pS2 promoter and on the AP-1 motif in the cyclin D1 promoter. Recruitment of HIF-1α and HIF-2α to common target genes is differentially regulated in neuroblastoma: HIF-2α promotes an aggressive phenotype

In neuroblastoma specimens, HIF-2alpha but not HIF-1alpha is strongly expressed in well-vascularized areas. In vitro, HIF-2alpha protein was stabilized at 5% O2 (resembling end capillary oxygen conditions) and, in contrast to the low HIF-1alpha activity at this oxygen level, actively transcribed genes like VEGF. Under hypoxia (1% O2), HIF-1alpha was transiently stabilized and primarily mediated acute responses, whereas HIF-2alpha protein gradually accumulated and governed prolonged hypoxic gene activation. Mechanism of leptin expression in breast cancer cells: role of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α

We reported previously that the obesity hormone leptin is overexpressed in breast cancer biopsies. Here, we investigated molecular mechanisms involved in this process, focusing on conditions that are associated with obesity, that is, hyperinsulinemia and induction of hypoxia. The enzymes required for the beta-oxidation of fatty acyl-CoA are present in peroxisomes and mitochondria. Administration of hypolipidaemic compounds such as clofibrate to rodents leads to an increase in the volume and density of peroxisomes in liver cells. These proliferators also induce simultaneously the expression of genes encoding acyl-CoA oxidase, enoyl-CoA hydratase-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (multifunctional enzyme) and thiolase (3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase).
