New high-sensitivity searches for neutrons converting into antineutrons and/or sterile neutrons at the HIBEAM/NNBAR experiment at the European Spalla…
2021
Abstract The violation of baryon number, B , is an essential ingredient for the preferential creation of matter over antimatter needed to account for the observed baryon asymmetry in the Universe. However, such a process has yet to be experimentally observed. The HIBEAM/NNBAR program is a proposed two-stage experiment at the European Spallation Source to search for baryon number violation. The program will include high-sensitivity searches for processes that violate baryon number by one or two units: free neutron–antineutron oscillation ( n → n ̄ ) via mixing, neutron–antineutron oscillation via regeneration from a sterile neutron state ( n → [ n ′ , n ̄ ′ ] → n ̄ ), and neutron disappearan…
Berseem-annual ryegrass intercropping: effect of plant arrangement and seeding ratio on N2 fixation and yield
2005
Various agronomic factors can affect the productivity and the efficiency of legume-grass intercropping systems. This research was carried out in a Mediterranean semi-arid environment (37°30’N; 13°31’E; 178 m a.s.l.) with the aim to study on berseem clover- annual ryegrass mixture (Trifolium alexandrinum L. – Lolium multiflorum Lam subsp. wersterwoldicum) the effects of different plant arrangement (sowing of the two components in alternate rows or in the same row) and seeding ratios (100:0; 75:25; 50:50; 25:75; 0:100) on forage yield, nitrogen content and nitrogen fixation. The experimental design was a split-plot with four replications. The 15N isotope dilution technique was used to estimat…
Effect of defoliation management and plant arrangement on yield and N2 fixation of berseem-annual ryegrass mixture
2005
The research was carried out in a Mediterranean semi-arid environment on berseem clover, annual ryegrass and their mixture to study the effect of defoliation management [date of first cut (FC) 85, 119, 140, 169 days after sowing] and different plant arrangements (sowing the two components in alternate rows or in the same row) on yields, N content, N2 fixation and N transfer. The experimental design was a split-plot with four replications. The 15 N isotope dilution technique was used (8 kg N ha –1 as ammonium sulphate at 10 atom% 15 N excess) to evaluate the N2 fixation. Total seasonal DM yield was, on average, significantly higher for FC119 and FC140 (approx. 12.3 t ha –1 ) than for FC85 and FC…
The effect of host mycorrhizal status on host plant-parasitic plant interactions
2001
Two pot experiments were conducted to examine three-level interactions between host plants, mycorrhizal fungi and parasitic plants. In a greenhouse experiment, Poa annua plants were grown in the presence or absence of an AM fungus (either Glomus lamellosum V43a or G. mosseae BEG29) and in the presence or absence of a root hemiparasitic plant (Odontites vulgaris). In a laboratory experiment, mycorrhizal infection (Glomus claroideum BEG31) of Trifolium pratense host plants (mycorrhizal versus non-mycorrhizal) was combined with hemiparasite infection (Rhinanthus serotinus) of the host (parasitized versus non-parasitized). Infection with the two species of Glomus had no significant effect on th…
TEM observations on symbionts ofJoenia annectens(Flagellata Hypermastigida)
2001
Transmission electron microscopy was used to evaluate the ultrastructural morphology of some other symbiotic prokaryotes of Joenia annectens, an intestinal flagellate of the termite Kalotermes flavicollis. Three morphotypes are predominant and recognizable from their morphological characteristics. One morphotype is represented by spirochaetes that are mainly external and cover the flagellate, helping its movement. Rod-shaped bacteria, which represent the second morphotype, are also attached to the surface among the spirochaetes. Rod-shaped bacteria and some spirochaetes may enter the cell surface of Joenia annectens as a consequence of phagocytosis, remaining enclosed in an envelope of plas…
(Z)-dodec-3-en-1-ol, a novel termite trail pheromone identified after solid phase microextraction from Macrotermes annandalei
2001
0022-1910 (Print) Journal Article; (Z)-dodec-3-en-1-ol was isolated and identified by GC-MS as the major component of the trail-following pheromone from whole body and sternal gland extracts of workers of the fungus-growing termite, Macrotermes annandalei (Silvestri) (Termitidae, Macrotermitinae). For the first time, this trail pheromone was also identified by using solid phase microextraction from the surface of the secretory sternal gland of workers. Bioassays showed that synthetic dodecenol induced both orientation and recruitment behavioral effects. The activity threshold of (Z)-dodec-3-en-1-ol in eliciting trail-following is similar to that of (3Z,6Z,8E)-dodeca-3,6,8-trien-1-ol in the …
Novel Developments on Artemisinin and Its Derivatives for Cancer Therapy
2009
The lack of effective long-term anticancer therapy highlights the necessity to identify new potent anticancer compounds. Many biocompounds of naturally occurring medicinal plants have pharmacological activities and, thus, represent a source of molecules that may have anti-proliferative effects on a variety of cancers. During the past 10 years, we have systematically analyzed medicinal plants used in traditional Chinese medicine and focused our interest on Artemisia annua (sweet wormwood herb). The active principle of sweet wormwood herb is Artemisinin, a sesquiterpene, which exerts not only anti-malarial activity but also profound cytotoxicity against tumour cells. The anti-tumour mechanism…
3D Tools for CH Documentation
2020
The research focuses on the digital Computer Assisted Restoration procedures to guide the measure of integration of an artefact, innovating and implementing traditional research methods. Non-invasive 3D Digitalization techniques with high-performance devices allow the generation of applications for high-resolution visualization of three-dimensional environments with the possibility of navigating, analyzing and consulting virtual models in real time. The innovative application of 3D digital technologies has demonstrated that the integrated use of the new technology can be a useful tool to improve the entire process of collecting, storing and consulting information and data related to diagnos…
Regole per costruire in campagna
2014
Description of first-year architectural design …
Wyrok za tłumaczenie. Sprawa Anny Rudzińskiej
2016
In 1960, Jerzy Giedroyc, editor-in-chief of “Culture”, turned to Anna Rudzińska asking for help in the translation of English-language books in exile sociologist Felix Gross. Rudzińska worked in the library of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Warsaw, at the same time was head of the office in the Polish Sociological Society. The summer of 1961 the prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the translation, and SB founded bugged the apartment Rudzińska. During the revision of the officers they found the Gross’es book and a few pages of the translation, and Rudzińska was temporarily arrested. In February 1962, the court sentenced her to one year in prison for going to translate …
