Search for the decayB¯0→Λc+p¯pp¯

We report a search for the decay B^0 → Λ^+_cppp. Using a data sample of 471×10^6 BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II2 storage ring at SLAC, we find no events and set an upper limit on the branching fraction B(B^0 → Λ^+_cppp)×^(B(Λ^+_c→pK^−π^+))_(0.050) <2.8×10^(−6) at 90% C.L., where we have normalized B(Λ^+_c → pK^−π^+) to the world average value.

Inverse simulated annealing for the determination of amorphous structures

We present a new and efficient optimization method to determine the structure of disordered systems in agreement with available experimental data. Our approach permits the application of accurate electronic structure calculations within the structure optimization. The new technique is demonstrated within density functional theory by the calculation of a model of amorphous carbon.

The fragile histidine triad (FHIT) protein is a member of the large and ubiquitous histidine triad (HIT) family of proteins. On the basis of genetic evidence, it has been postulated that the FHIT protein may function as tumor suppressor, implying a role for the FHIT protein in carcinogenesis. Recently, Gaudio et al. reported that FHIT binds and delocalizes annexin A4 (ANXA4) from plasma membrane to cytosol in paclitaxel-resistant lung cancer cells, thus restoring their chemosensitivity to the drug. The in silico COMPARE analysis was performed on 8-[3-(piperidino)propyl]-4,10-dimethyl-9-phenyl-6-(methylsulfanyl)-3,4-dihydropyrimido[1,2-c]pyrrolo[3,2-e]pyrimidin-2(8H)-one, a compound with promising antiproliferative activity, previously synthetized and screened against a panel of 60 human tumor cell lines. The results evidenced that this compound matches the biological properties of Chromomycin A3 and Actinomycin D, known drugs with high DNA binding affinity. In questo articolo viene proposta una ricostruzione storica delle relazioni educative familiari dell’Italia degli anni Cinquanta. Dallo studio dei diversi generi cinematografici diffusisi in quegli anni (neorealismo, melò e commedia) emerge l’immagine di una famiglia in transizione, divisa tra il vecchio e il nuovo. Il cinema neorealista descriveva la crisi del modello educativo autoritario, il melò rappresentava i difficili rapporti tra uomo e donna, la commedia si faceva interprete delle nuove conflittualità relazionali vissute all’interno della famiglia nucleare, sia tra padre e madre sia tra genitori e figli. Selective breeding has led to modifications in the genome of many livestock breeds. In this study, we identified the genomic regions that may explain some of the phenotypic differences between two closely related breeds from Sardinia. A total of 44 animals, 20 Sardinian Ancestral Black (SAB) and 24 Sardinian White (SW), were genotyped using the Illumina Ovine 50K array. A total of 68, 38 and 15 significant markers were identified using the case–control genome-wide association study (GWAS), the Bayesian population differentiation analysis (FST) and the Rsb metric, respectively. We present measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries in $B$-meson decays to ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$, ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$, and ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$. La committenza gesuitica e la pittura a Palermo tra XVI e XVIII secolo

Il presente lavoro di ricerca mira ad approfondire e arricchire, mediante nuove acquisizioni, lo studio in merito alle opere pittoriche di committenza gesuitica custodite presso le fondazioni palermitane dell’Ordine: chiesa del Gesù a Casa Professa, Collegio Massimo dei Gesuiti, chiesa di San Stanislao Kostka e chiesa di San Francesco Saverio. A queste si aggiungono i dipinti di committenza della Compagnia trasferiti presso altre sedi. Ulteriore intento è quello di organizzare in maniera più organica la trattazione delle commissioni artistiche dell’Ordine a Palermo, che si presentava dispersiva e frammentaria.
