2011

Nurses' social representations of hospital hygiene were analyzed. A cross-sectional method was used to compare and analyze the social representations of the concept domain of "hospital hygiene" across three independent groups of participants (N=744). The groups included: (a) professional nurses (N=114); (b) student nurses (N=315); and (c) psychology students (N=315). Geneza ruchu ziomkowskiego w Niemczech Zachodnich (1947–1949) a źródła rewizjonizmu zachodnioniemieckiego

2018

The homeland association movement in Germany is an important element of the social and political landscape of that country. The importance of this movement and its influence upon the political system of Germany underwent evolution. The greatest importance – in social aspect, but also in political aspect – characterised the initial twenty-year period of the existence of the Federal Republic of Germany, i.e. the years 1949–1969. Numerous connections that the movement leaders had with political parties, along with the participation in holding power (the representatives of the movement sat in federal governments as well), stood as evidence that the expelled and their organisations had tangible …

Creating Implicit Measure Stimulus Sets Using a Multi-Step Piloting Method

2023

The effect of arbitrary stimulus selection is a persistent concern when employing implicit measures. The current study tests a data-driven multi-step procedure to create stimulus items using a combination of free-recall and survey data. Six sets of stimulus items were created, representing healthy food and high sugar items in children, adolescents, and adults. Selected items were highly representative of the target concepts, in frequent use, and of near equal length. Tests of the piloted items in two samples showed slightly higher implicit measure–behavior relations compared to a previously used measure, providing preliminary support for the value in empirically based stimulus selection. Fu…

Lexical Substitution and Paraphasia in Advanced Dementia of the Alzheimer Type

2017

Abstract The paper presents the case study of lexical selection in Alzheimer-type dementia. Lexical substitutions in poem recitation and conversations of a Russian speaker, who suffered Alzheimer-type dementia, were analyzed on the background of the lexical retrieval and slip-of-the-tongue phenomena. The classification of the substitutions is worked out on the basis of the links between a target word and its substitutions. The current context plays an essential role as natural priming for a substitution in a poem recitation. Some words have predisposition to be lost; the units belong to the figurative language or to the category of infrequent lexemes. In conversation, the patient masked fai…

The marketplace vulnerability of low-income unbanked consumers : a developing country perspective

2018

Financial exclusion is recognised as an important element of socio-economic inequality where economically vulnerable groups are excluded from basic financial services. The issue of financial exclusion is mainly concentrated in the world’s developing countries. However, research on the issue of financial exclusion in the field of marketing as well as from the perspective of unbanked consumers is lacking. Although financial exclusion impedes low-income consumers’ welfare, there is a shortage of wellbeing related studies on low-income consumers in the context of developing countries. This doctoral dissertation aims to investigate the ways in which low-income unbanked consumers experience vulne…

Is Autonomy Always Beneficial for Work Engagement? A Six-year Four-Wave Follow-Up Study.

2021

Work engagement is expected to result from job resources such as autonomy. However, previous results have yielded that the autonomy–work engagement relationship is not always particularly strong. Whereas previous longitudinal studies have examined this relationship as an average at a specific point in time, this study examined whether this relationship is different within individuals from one time to another over the years. Furthermore, experiences of work engagement are expected to affect how employees benefit from autonomy, but no studies have so far investigated whether the initial level of work engagement affects the autonomy–work engagement relationship. This study aimed to first ident…
