The aim of this study is to asses the non-thermal effects of the electromagnetic fields generated by 915 MHz GSM cellular phones on the human cochlear activity using transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE). The study was carried on 205 young and healthy volunteers (age 18-30 years) with normal hearing which were randomly divided into two samples consisting of 85 (Gcase) and 120 (Gcontrol) respectively. The first one was exposed to genuine 10 minutes of GSM electromagnetic fields while the second, undergone sham exposure, was considered as control group for the statistical investigations. Auditory brain stem responses in patients with human immunotropic virus infection of different stages.

Thirty patients (26 men, 4 women) with human immunotropic virus infection of different stages were examined. Eleven patients had a history of i.v. drug abuse, nine patients had a history of treated lues infection, and one patient suffered from Kaposi's sarcoma. At the time of the examination, opportunistic infections or acute encephalitis were not apparent in any patient. All patients underwent otoneurological examinations, including pure-tone audiometry, caloric vestibular testing, and recording of the auditory brain stem responses (ABR). The own risk and solvency assessment under art. 45 of the Solvency II Directive forms the subject of this chapter. Initial attention is given to clarifying the role of ORSA in the insurance supervisory regime and the principles applicable to it. Then follows a discussion of the relationship of ORSA to the risk management function as well to the other key functions under the insurance supervisory regime. In conclusion, the chapter addresses, inter alia, the documentation, the public disclosure, and the supervisory powers involved in an ORSA procedure.
Definition and Holders of Key Functions

This chapter takes up the four key functions established in the Solvency II Directive. In this vein, the significance of the key functions is highlighted first. Then follows the analysis of the terms “key function” and “key function holders”, terms undefined in the Solvency II Directive. The next step points out the distinctions among key function holders and their subordinate staff members. A part of this breakdown is to examine in practice who exercises which function in an insurance undertaking. The chapter wraps up by looking at whether key functions are performed in a centralized or decentralized organization.
Linearizing Auditory Distance Estimates by Means of Virtual Acoustics

Auditory distance estimates are not linearly related to physical distances: people tend to overestimate close physical distances, and underestimate far distances [I]. We have modeled a virtual listening environment whose objective is to provide a linear relationship between perceived and physical distance. The simulated environment consists of a trapezoidal membrane with specific absorbing properties at the boundaries. Musicians show enhanced auditory processing compared to nonmusicians. However, the neural basis underlying the effects of musical training on rapid plasticity in auditory processing has not been systematically studied. Here, the rapid (one session) learning-related plastic changes in event-related potential (ERP) responses for pitch and duration deviants between passive blocks were compared between musicians and nonmusicians. Auditory event-related potentials (ERPs) have been used to understand how the brain processes auditory input, and to track developmental change in sensory systems.
