(OBJECTIVE) Jacobeus and Bethune performed thoracoscopy under local anaesthesia, already on early 1900. A single access associated with local anaesthesia aims to improve procedure tolerance, shorten recovery and reduce costs. (METHODS) Premedication consists of atropine 0.01 mg/kg and midazolam (0,02-0.04 mg/kg). Pain control and sedation was obtained by remifentanile (0.05-0.1 mcg/kg/min). Local anaesthesia was made with lidocaine and ropivacaine. An incision of 20 mm is realised at 6° intercostal space for the “single-access-technique”, and two incisions for the “2-trocars-technique” (15 mm at 5°space - 10 mm at 6°/7°space). Recovery of rescuers from a 24-hour shift and its association with physical fitness

The work of rescuers can be physically and psychologically very demanding so it is important for them to have sufficient recovery between work shifts. The purpose of this thesis was to study recovery of rescuers and to see if physical fitness is associated with recovery from work shifts. Heart rate variability (HRV) recordings reflect changes in the autonomic nervous system, and they were used for the analysis of stress and recovery. HRV was recorded for 96 hours, from the beginning of a 24-hour work shift to the beginning of the next shift. Different profiles of mental and physical health and stress hormone response in women victims of intimate partner violence

Abstract Objectives To analyse the individual differences in the impact that intimate male partner violence (IPV) has on a woman's depressive and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptomatology, and to determine the association of the different profiles of mental dysfunction with cortisol and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) basal saliva levels as well as physical health symptoms. Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out in which IPV victims (n=73) and control non-abused (n=31) women participated.
