Detection and quantification of Streptococcus pneumoniae from Iranian patients with pneumonia and individual carriers by real time PCR

The aim of this study was to develop a real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for quantitative detection of Streptococcus pneumoniae from clinical respiratory specimens. Initially, 184 respiratory specimens from patients with community acquired pneumonia (CAP) (n = 129) and 55 cases with hospital associated pneumonia (HAP) were bacteriologically investigated. To check the colonization status among the healthy individuals, 32 preschool and 31 adults were screened in parallel. The availability of experimental information on solid distribution inside stirred tanks is a topic of great importance in several industrial applications. The measurement of solid particle distribution in turbulent multiphase flow is not simple and the development of suitable measurement techniques is still in progress. In this work a novel non-intrusive technique for measuring particle concentration fields in solid-liquid systems is employed. Elicitins are a family of proteins excreted byPhytophthora spp. They exhibit high sequence homology but large net charge differences. They induce necrosis in tobacco plants which then become resistant to the tobacco pathogenPhytophthora parasitica var.nicotianae. Abstract We present the first case of acute and reversible Pisa Syndrome, as a clinical manifestation of a portosystemic encephalopathy bout occurring in a patient affected with cirrhosis and clinical-radiological signs of acquired hepatocerebral degeneration, without exposure to psychotropic medications. A 62 year-old man suffering from cirrhosis was admitted to our hospital for sudden onset of mild confusion and postural change. The impact of compliance with Italian guidelines on the outcome of hospitallised community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in internal medicine departments was evaluated. All Fine class IV or V CAP patients were included in this multicentre, interventional, before-and-after study, composed of three phases: 1) a retrospective phase (RP; 1,443 patients); 2) a guideline implementation phase; and 3) a prospective phase (PP; 1,404 patients). Antibiotic prescription according to the guidelines increased significantly in the PP.
