The High A(V) Quasar Survey: Reddened quasi-stellar objects selected from optical/near-infrared photometry - II
2014
Quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) whose spectral energy distributions (SEDs) are reddened by dust either in their host galaxies or in intervening absorber galaxies are to a large degree missed by optical color selection criteria like the one used by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). To overcome this bias against red QSOs, we employ a combined optical and near-infrared color selection. In this paper, we present a spectroscopic follow-up campaign of a sample of red candidate QSOs which were selected from the SDSS and the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS). The spectroscopic data and SDSS/UKIDSS photometry are supplemented by mid-infrared photometry from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explo…
The Transoid, Ortho, and Gauche Conformers of Decamethyl-n-tetrasilane, n-Si4Me10: Electronic Transitions in the Multistate Complete Active Space Se…
2003
Multistate complete active space second-order perturbation theory (MS-CASPT2) is used to improve earlier descriptions of the low-energy valence excited states of the transoid, ortho, and gauche conformers of decamethyl-n-tetrasilane, n-Si4Me10, using a generally contracted basis set of atomic natural orbitals (ANOs) at a ground-state geometry optimized in the second-order Moller−Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) approximation with Dunning's correlation consistent triple-ζ basis set (cc-pVTZ) on the silicon atoms and the 6-31G* and 6-31G basis sets on the carbon and hydrogen atoms, respectively. Relative energies, relative free energies, and mole fractions of the transoid, ortho, and gauche …
Jet collimation in NGC 315 and other nearby AGN
2020
Aims. The collimation of relativistic jets in galaxies is a poorly understood process. Detailed radio studies of the jet collimation region have been performed so far in few individual objects, providing important constraints for jet formation models. However, the extent of the collimation zone as well as the nature of the external medium possibly confining the jet are still debated. Methods. In this article we present a multi-frequency and multi-scale analysis of the radio galaxy NGC 315, including the use of mm-VLBI data up to 86 GHz, aimed at revealing the evolution of the jet collimation profile. We then consider results from the literature to compare the jet expansion profile in a samp…
Reducing CAS-SDCI space. Using selected spaces in configuration interaction calculations in an efficient way
2002
A new method is presented, which allows an important reduction of the size of some Configuration Interaction (CI) matrices. Starting from a Complete Active Space (CAS), the numerous configurations that have a small weight in the CAS wave function are eliminated. When excited configurations (e.g., singly and doubly excited) are added to the reference space, the resulting MR-SDCI space is reduced in the same proportion as compared with the full CAS–SDCI. A set of active orbitals is chosen, but some selection of the most relevant excitations is performed because not all the possible excitations act as SDCI generators. Thanks to a new addressing technique, the computational time is drastically …
INFLUENCE OF UNCERTAINTIES ON ROTATING FLEXIBLE SHAFT SUSPENDED BY 4-AXIS RADIAL ACTIVE MAGNETIC BEARINGS µ-SYNTHESIS AND LOOP-SHAPING-DESIGN
2012
This paper shows a comparison about dynamic behavior of a rotating shaft when it is suspended by 4-axis radial active magnetic bearing system. The active magnetic suspension is obtained by two different controllers which realize the robust stability and robust performance. The control systems used are µ-synthesis and loop shaping design procedure. Each of these controllers is characterized by fourinput and four output signals and the introduction of uncertainties on displacement gain and current gain is justified by the simple fact that during the time the component which constitutes these gains can be subjected to torn and worn which can lead the entire system to instability phenomena. The…
Active macro-zones algorithm via multidomain SBEM for strain-hardening elastoplastic analysis
2010
In this paper a strategy to perform strain-hardening elastoplastic analysis by using the Symmetric Boundary Element Method (SBEM) for multi-domain type problems is shown. The procedure has been developed inside Karnak.sGbem code by introducing an additional module.
Elastoplastic analysis for active macro-zones via multidomain symmetric Galerkin BEM
2010
In this paper a strategy to perform elastoplastic analysis by using the Symmetric Boundary Element Method (SBEM) for multidomain type problems is shown. This formulation uses a self-stresses equation to evaluate the trial stress in the predictor phase, and to provide the elastoplastic solution in the corrector one. Since the solution is obtained through a return mapping involving simultaneously all the plastically active bem-elements, the proposed strategy does not depend on the path of the plastic strain process and it is characterized by computational advantages due the considerable decrease of the plastic iterations number. This procedure has been developed inside Karnak.sGbem code [1] b…
