The principal purpose of this paper is to determine the incidence of the corporate income taxes which explains directly or indirectly (with an incidence on the traditional variables of the determination of capital structures) the global evolution of capital structures of french firms over the period 1988 and 1998. We provide too the possible reason which justifies why some firms have an evolution of capital structure in the opposite direction or in attenuated way in comparison with the general tendency.

Long-term care of older adults is currently suffering from a shortage of trained personnel and high turnover rates. Care work is poorly paid, demanding, increasingly time-bound and both mentally and physically burdensome. In this study, we examined the individual, organisational and economic factors that predict professional care workers’ intentions to leave their current employment, using the NORDCARE survey data (2015, N = 3801) collected in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. International audience; This study uses the case of an oncological paediatric service to discuss sensemaking and discourse ethics in the context of caregiving, building ethical competence to provide the best care possible to children. The patients and their families live in paediatric care, some for several years. At length, an intense relationship may develop between the medical staff and patients' family members, albeit at times a difficult relationship. Still, interviews conducted indicated that when caregivers provided the best care possible to these patients, even in this harsh environment, an ethics of sensitivity made a positive difference both for the patients and the medical staff.…
Activity-based Management in France: A focus on the information systems department of a bank

International audience; The aim of the paper is to describe the Activity-based Costing and Management methods applied in France. For that purpose, we use a literature review and a case study. In a first time, we analyse the origins of the methods and their diffusion. Then we present the French situation. Finally, we propose a case study that takes place in a French bank. Our paper shows that the ABC and ABM methods are as developed in France as in the Anglo-Saxon countries and that the methods are strategically oriented.

The paper studies the mechanisms that govern the interactions between the entrepreneur (novice or expert) and the specific investors of emerging firms (business angels (BAs) and venture-capital firms (VCs)). Combining both literatures on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial finance, our aim is to understand if the rationalities of these three actors help them or not to interact, and, to study how they influence each other during the firm's growth. The evolution of the methods for execution of the custodial penalty demonstrates changes in the treatment of convicts. In the historically oldest systems, the aspect of subjectivity of convicts was completely omitted in favour of their complete isolation (objectification), which resulted in the lack of corrective effects. It was only later that the system of progression in its various forms was adopted, which allowed strengthening of the convicts’ position by appreciation of their work and education as well as gradual mitigation of the effects of prison isolation.
