2005
L’articolo analizza l’interpretazione degli Acta Alexandrinorum fornita da M.I. Rostovtzeff, dai quali emergerebbero gli alti ideali della cultura greca e della tradizione di Alessandria di fronte all’imperium Romanum.

Cut and post-cut herbage management affects berseem clover seed yield.
2013
The seed yield of berseem clover (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) is usually obtained from regrowth after forage utilization. In stockless, cereal-growing, or specialized seed farms the forage is not needed and the mowed herbage is seldom marketable. Three different experiments were conducted in a Mediterranean environment to evaluate the effect of returning the cut biomass to the soil/crop on the regrowth, seed yield, and seed quality of berseem clover. Different forms of cut and post-cut management were examined, in which the time of cutting, the amount of biomass returned to the crop/soil, and the size of the returned material (unchopped or chopped) all varied. In addition, the effect of the …
Squaring Nemesis: Alexander’s Dream, the Oracle, and the Foundation of the New Smyrna
2022
In the 7th book of the Periegesis, Pausanias devotes a long digression to the Ionian migration in Asia Minor, focusing briefly on the story of Smyrna, whose territory originally belonged to the Aeolian settlers and was then occupied, at the beginning of the 7th century, by the Ionians from nearby Colophon. The arrival of Alexander the Great in the region marked the beginning of a new phase for Smyrna. Pausanias reports that the Macedonian king, on his way back from a hunting expedition on Mount Pagos, arrived at the sanctuary of the Nemeseis. There, the divinities appeared to him in a dream telling him to find a city and to bring there the inhabitants of the older polis. The Smyrnaeans then…
«L'arte giottesca portata al suo apogeo»: l'Oratorio di San Giorgio nella discussione dei conoscitori (1837-1846)
2021
The Nineteenth-Century rediscovery of the Oratory of S. Giorgio offers the opportunity to question the conservation methods, historical analysis and creative reception of fourteenth-century painting. This essay reconstructs the historical circumstances of the discovery of Altichiero’s frescoes and the consequent discussions among connoisseurs concerning the autography and the cultural value of the same. The protagonists of this scholarly discussion - the German art historian Ernst Förster (1800-1885) and his Italian colleague Pietro Selvatico Estense (1803-1880) - see the Paduan fresco cycle as a model for both modern draughtsmanship and large-scale fresco decoration. This dualistic charact…

Approximation of Banach space valued Riemann type integrable functions by step functions
2008
In this talk we consider the possibility to approximate (with respect to some topology induced by the Alexiewicz norm) non absolutely integrable functions defined on the unit interval by step functions. In particular we show that any Henstock (respectively Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis, Denjoy-Khintchine-Pettis) integrable functions can be scalarly approximate in the Alexiewicz norm by a sequence of step functions. Moreover the approximation may be done in the Alexiewicz norm if and only if the range of the integral is relatively norm compact (property which is automatically satisfied by the Henstock integrable functions). We also provide an example to show that, unlike the Pettis case, Henstock…
Quality of life, alexithymia, and defence mechanisms in patients affected by breast cancer across different stages of illness
2016
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of alexithymia and defence mechanisms on the quality of life of patients affected by breast cancer at different stages of the disease. Methods A convenience sample of 110 patients with breast cancer was involved in the study: 41 were receiving adjuvant chemotherapyafter surgery, 29 had disease-free survival in follow-up and 40 were receiving chemotherapy for metastatic disease. Quality of life, alexithymia and defence mechanisms were assessed using the following instruments: EORTC QLQ-C30-BR23, Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) and Defense Mechanism Inventory (DMI). Results Compared to the other groups, patients receiving chemoth…
Type D Personality and Alexithymia: Common Characteristics of Two Different Constructs. Implications for Research and Clinical Practice
2018
In the last few decades, particular attention has been paid to the role of personality specific traits that can affect the loss of health, i.e., Type D personality and Alexithymia. They have been conceptualized in a different period, this means that they are different both for their theoretical positions and their empirical studies. Some authors have speculated that there is a potential conceptual overlap between Type D personality and alexithymia constructs but there is a shortcoming in the literature. The aim of the study was to examine the potential overlap between the constructs of type D personality and alexithymia, replicating previous two studies, to extend these findings to Italian …
