Assessing the quality of studies in meta-research: Review/guidelines on the most important quality assessment tools

2020

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses pool data from individual studies to generate a higher level of evidence to be evaluated by guidelines. These reviews ultimately guide clinicians and stakeholders in health-related decisions. However, the informativeness and quality of evidence synthesis inherently depend on the quality of what has been pooled into meta-research projects. Moreover, beyond the quality of included individual studies, only a methodologically correct process, in relation to systematic reviews and meta-analyses themselves, can produce a reliable and valid evidence synthesis. Hence, quality of meta-research projects also affects evidence synthesis reliability. In this overview…

2016

Tacitus on Titus? Visit to the Temple of Venus at Paphos

2020

This article deals with Titus? visit to the temple of Venus at Paphos in the second book of Tacitus? Historiae. In partenza verso il majhul. Italiani ed egiziani in fuga per Alessandria d'Egitto

2019

This article analyzes two novels set in Alexandria. The first one is "Cortile a Cleopatra" by the Italian writer Fausta Cialente. The second one is "Nobody sleeps in Alexandria" (Lâ ahad yanâm fî'l-Iskandariyya) by Ibrahim Abdel Meguid. The analysis focus on actions that characterize the genre of travel literature in which the traveler is expected to perform two actions: leaving then returning. If the traveler does not come back to the starting point, his experience is not considered as "travel", rather as "change of residence". But it does not always work out that way. In the two novels, the protagonists leave with intentions of ever coming back. At the same time, their departure includes …

Behavioral Restriction Determines Left Attentional Bias: Preliminary Evidences From COVID-19 Lockdown

2021

International audience; During the COVID-19 lockdown, individuals were forced to remain at home, hence severely limiting the interaction within environmental stimuli, reducing the cognitive load placed on spatial competences. The effects of the behavioral restriction on cognition have been little examined. The present study is aimed at analyzing the effects of lockdown on executive function prominently involved in adapting behavior to new environmental demands. We analyze non-verbal fluency abilities, as indirectly providing a measure of cognitive flexibility to react to spatial changes. Sixteen students (mean age 20.75; SD 1.34), evaluated before the start of the lockdown (T1) in a battery…
