Overview of Positive Psychology in Latin-American Countries

This chapter aims to outline the dissemination of Positive Psychology (PP) in Latin America and provides an overview of the present book. In the past decade, PP was introduced in Argentina by Maria Martina Casullo. Since 2006, Positive Psychology Ibero-American Meetings have been held annually, involving the majority of Latin American countries, especially from South America. Abstract books of these meetings and Latin-American indexed journals were the basis to identify the impact of PP in the southern region. “Curious Victories”: The Famous Murder Case of Maria Barbella and Italian-American Women in the Press Between the 1890s and 1910s

Immigrant women during the period of mass migration received little public attention. However, when some of them became protagonists in sensational murder cases, they burst into the public sphere. Analyzing the representation of Maria Barbella's trial in the mainstream, yellow and the Italian-American press shows how some of these invisible women were able to assert themselves in the public sphere and achieve a degree of agency despite their tragic circumstances. This study analyzes the various references to Italy in several sections of La Ilustración Española y Americana in order to assess the contribution of the magazine in the configuration of the reception of Italian culture in Spain in the late nineteenth century, through the newspaper and through network of textual features associated therewith. Este estudio analiza las diferentes referencias a Italia en varias de las secciones de La Ilustración Española y Americana con el fin de evaluar la contribución de revista en la configuración de la recepción de la cultura italiana en España a finales del siglo xix, a través del medio periodístico y de la red de rasgos textuales con él relacionada.

W artykule autor przedstawia zróżnicowane spojrzenie na problem migracji: emigrację z krajów latynoamerykańskich i imigrancką perspektywę w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Problem ujmuje przede wszystkim jako wyzwanie i jednocześnie zagrożenie dla bezpieczeństwa społecznego, ze względu na współwystępujące problemy: nierówności społeczne, ubóstwo, wyzysk w miejscu pracy. Temat w dalszym ciągu jest aktualny, również ze względu na jego polityczne uwarunkowania, obecne w kampanii wyborczej w 2016 roku w Stanach Zjednoczonych.
