What is the Right Theory for Anderson Localization of Light? An Experimental Test

Anderson localization of light is traditionally described in analogy to electrons in a random potential. Within this description, the random potential depends on the wavelength of the incident light. For transverse Anderson localization, this leads to the prediction that the distribution of localization lengths---and, hence, its average---strongly depends on the wavelength. In an alternative description, in terms of a spatially fluctuating electric modulus, this is not the case. Here, we report on an experimentum crucis in order to investigate the validity of the two conflicting theories using optical samples exhibiting transverse Anderson localization. Misdiagnosis of familial Mediterranean fever in patients with Anderson-Fabry disease

Fabry disease (FD) is an underdiagnosed pathology due to its symptomatology that overlaps with various systemic and rheumatic disorders, including familial Mediterranean fever (FMF). We examined the Mediterranean fever (MEFV) and α-galactosidase A (GLA) genes, whose mutations are responsible for FMF and FD, respectively, in 42 unrelated patients diagnosed with FMF, which revealed significant ambiguity regarding some of the symptoms which are also present in FD. The objective of this study was to determine the spectrum of mutations present in these genes, in order to identify cases of mistaken diagnosis of FMF and/or missed diagnosis of FD. A partir del conte d’Andersen «La princesa i el pèsol», s’aborden qüestions que afecten el sentit i difusió d’un text que forma part del cànon de contes clàssics, objecte de pràctiques discursives diverses. En primer lloc, la interpretació de la sensibilitat extrema de la seua protagonista i la reflexió sobre el possible missatge misògin del relat. En aquest sentit, es tracta la reescriptura dels contes de fades proposada per la crítica feminista i l’aparició de nous contes metaficcionals que dialoguen intertextualment amb els clàssics.
