Lethal rupture of post-traumatic aneurysm of the vertebral artery case report.

2009

Abstract Traumatic aneurysms or dissections of the vertebral artery have been reported in patients who have suffered minor craniofacial injuries in traffic accidents. A case is reported of ruptured traumatic vertebral artery aneurysm due to closed head injury without without penetrating injuries or skull fractures. The macroscopic and histological findings relevant to the vertebral wall were compatible with post-traumatic aneurysm; the rupture of the wall was assumed to be caused by sepsis and local infiltration of inflammatory cells.

Emergency Endovascular Treatment of Petrous Carotid Artery False Aneurysm

2015

Abstract Introduction The management of ruptured intracranial false aneurysms (IFAs) might be tricky as any kind of treatment modality, surgical or endovascular, is burdened with significant challenges. A case report of the endovascular treatment of IFA in emergency setting is presented to provide more understanding of its pathophysiology as well as of the best operative work-up for petrous carotid artery reconstruction. Methods Technical notes from a left sided skull base abscess, involving and eroding the carotid canal and petrous carotid artery (PCA) resulting in an IFA are shown and analyzed. Results Balloon-assisted low viscosity Onyx embolization seems an effective method for the emer…

The Role of Small, Dense Low-Density-Lipoproteins in Non-Coronary Forms of Atherosclerosis

2008

Small, dense low density lipoproteins (LDL) are associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease and seem to be an important predictor of cardiovascular events and progression of coronary artery disease. In addition, the predominance of small dense LDL has been accepted as an emerging cardiovascular risk factor by the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP III). Less data is available on the role of LDL size in the prevention of vascular diseases, including peripheral arterial disease, carotid artery disease and abdominal aortic aneurysm. The NCEP-ATP III stated that clinical non-coronary atherosclerosis carries a risk for coronary heart disease …

Trans-limb embolization for treatment of Type 2 endoleak post EVAR: Case report

2021

Introduction Type 2 endoleaks (T2EL) occur after 10%–25% of endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs and increase the risk factor of endograft repair failure and rupture. Herein we report a case of endovascular treatment of T2EL where we performed a trans-limb embolization. Presentation of case A 63-years-old male previously treated for AAA with endovascular aortic aneurysms repair (EVAR), showed an angio-CT scan followup with a type 2 endoleak fed from inferior mesenteric artery (AMI) with growth of AAA greater of 1 cm than preoperative CT-scan and increase of chronic lumbar pain. Due to high risk of rupture was performed a trans-limb embolization with complete sealing. The 6 months …

Current role of the chimney technique in the treatment of complex abdominal aortic pathologies: A position paper from the PERICLES Registry investiga…

2020

Historically, chimney/snorkel endovascular aortic repair (Ch-EVAR) emerged as a rescue technique to revascularize and/or preserve inadvertently covered critical branch vessels during infrarenal aortic endografting. Next, in its evolutionary path, Ch-EVAR offered a viable treatment option for complex aortic repair, and particularly in situations where fenestrated/ branched EVAR was not a therapeutic option due to the lack of availability and/or anatomical constraints. In this context, this technique offered distinct advantages such as off-the-shelf availability, straightforward implantation techniques, and lower resource use-intensity enabling performance by a large number of operators manag…

Rapid Regression of Exudative Maculopathy in Idiopathic Retinitis, Vasculitis, Aneurysms and Neuroretinitis Syndrome after Intravitreal Ranibizumab

2012

The idiopathic retinitis, vasculitis, aneurysms and neuroretinitis syndrome is a rare retinal vascular disorder characterized by multiple leaking aneurysmal dilations, retinal vasculitis, neuroretinitis and peripheral vascular ischemia. Visual loss mainly occurs due to the development of retinal neovascularization and/or exudative maculopathy. Although the treatment of choice has not yet been established, retinal photocoagulation seems to be the best option to control the disease and to prevent its progression. Herein, we report a case of idiopathic retinitis, vasculitis, aneurysms and neuroretinitis syndrome with both retinal neovascularization and macular exudation successfully managed wi…

Chimney Technique with Nellix EndoVascular Aneurysm Sealing System in a Patient with Single Kidney and Juxtarenal Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

2016

AbstractWe present a saccular asymptomatic juxtarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm in a 70-year-old male with a very short left renal artery supplying the only kidney. The case was successfully treated with the Nellix EndoVascular Aneurysm Sealing system combined with a chimney technique.
