The forward-backward asymmetry for charm quarks at the Z pole

1995

From 1.4 million hadronic Z decays collected by the ALEPH detector at LEP, an enriched sample of Z --> c $$($) over bar c events is extracted by requiring the presence of a high momentum D*(+/-). The charm quark forward-backward charge asymmetry at the Z pole is measured to be A(FB)(0,c) = (8.0 +/- 2.4)% corresponding to an effective electroweak mixing angle of sin(2) theta(W)(eff) = 0.2302 +/- 0.0054.

Measurements of directCPasymmetries inB→Xsγdecays using sum of exclusive decays

2014

We measure the direct CP violation asymmetry, A_(CP), in B→X_sγ and the isospin difference of the asymmetry, ΔA_(CP), using 429  fb^(−1) of data collected at Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e^+e^− storage rings operating at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. B mesons are reconstructed from ten charged B final states and six neutral B final states. We find A_(CP)=+(1.7±1.9±1.0)%, which is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction and provides an improvement on the world average. Moreover, we report the first measurement of the difference between A_(CP) for charged and neutral decay modes, ΔA_(CP)=+(5.0±3.9±1.5)%. Using the value of ΔA_(CP)…

Production of strange particles in the hadronic decays of the Z0

1992

Abstract An analysis of the production of strange particles from the decays of the Z 0 boson into multihadronic final states is presented. The analysis is based on about 90 000 selected hadronic Z 0 decays collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP in 1990. K s 0 , K ∗± , Λ( Λ ) and Ξ − ( Ξ + ) have been identified by their characteristic decays. The measured production cross sections are compared with predictions of the Lund Monte Carlo tuned to data at PEP/PETRA energies.

Search for CP violation in the decay Z → τ+τ−

1995

Data collected by ALEPH in the years 1990, 1991 and 1992 have been used to update a previous search for CP violation in the decay of the Z into tau(+)tau(-). The measurement of the weak dipole form factor of the tau lepton has been performed by studying correlations between the tau leptons. No signal of CP violation was found. The weak dipole form factor is found to be ($) over tilde d(tau) = (+0.15 +/- 0.58(stat) +/- 0.38(sys)) 10(-17)e . cm, obtained with 19628 identified tau(+)tau(-) events. This gives an upper limit on the weak dipole form factor of j\($) over tilde d(tau)\ < 1.5 . 10(-17)e . cm at the 95% confidence level.

Measurement of the transverse spin correlations in the decay Z → τ+τ-

1997

For tau leptons produced in e(+)e(-) --> tau(+)tau(-) interactions there are, in addition to the longitudinal spin correlations, two independent transverse spin correlations associated with the transverse (within the production plane) and normal (to the production plane) polarization components. A measurement of the transverse-transverse and transverse-normal tau spin correlations in the decay Z --> tau(+)tau(-), C-TT and C-TN, is presented based on the aplanarity angle of the decay products of both tau leptons. Using 80 pb(-1) of data collected by ALEPH on the peak of the Z resonance, the results are C-TT = 1.06 +/- 0.13(stat) +/- 0.05(syst), and C-TN = 0.08 +/- 0.13(stat) +/- 0.04(syst). …

Measurement of time-dependentCP-violating asymmetries and constraints onsin(2β+γ)with partial reconstruction ofB→D*∓π±decays

2005

We present a measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in decays of neutral B mesons to the final states D*-+ pi+-, using approximately 232 million BBbar events recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP2 e+e- storage ring. Events containing these decays are selected with a partial reconstruction technique, in which only the high-momentum pi+- from the B decay and the low-momentum pi-+ from the D*-+ decay are used. % We measure the parameters related to 2beta+gamma to be a_D*pi=-0.034 +- 0.014 +- 0.009 and c_l_D*pi = -0.019 +- 0.022 +- 0.013. With some theoretical assumptions, we interpret our results in term of the lower limits |\sin(2beta+gamma)|> 0.62 (0.35) at 68% (90%…

Measurement of the time-dependentCPasymmetry of partially reconstructedB0→D*+D*−decays

2012

We present a new measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry of B0->D*+D*- decays using (471+-5) million BBbar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II B Factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Using the technique of partial reconstruction, we measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters S=-0.34+-0.12+-0.05$ and C=+0.15+-0.09+-0.04. Using the value for the CP-odd fraction R_perp=0.158+-0.028+-0.006, previously measured by BaBar with fully reconstructed B0->D*+D*- events, we extract the CP-even components S+=-0.49+-0.18+-0.07+-0.04 and C+=+0.15+-0.09+-0.04. In each case, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic; the third uncertaint…

Study of D0– mixing and D0 doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays

1998

Abstract Using a sample of four million hadronic Z events collected in ALEPH from 1991 to 1995, the decays D ∗+ → D 0 π s + , with D0 decaying to K−π+ or to K+π−, are studied. The relative branching ratio B(D0→K+π−)/B(D0→K−π+) is measured to be 1.84±0.59( stat. ) ±0.34( syst. ) %. The two possible contributions to the D0→K+π− decay, doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays and D0– D 0 mixing, are disentangled by measuring the proper-time distribution of the reconstructed D0's. Assuming no interference between the two processes, the upper limit obtained on the mixing rate is 0.92% at 95% CL . The possible effect of interference between the two amplitudes is also assessed.

Search for charginos and neutralinos with R-parity violation at =130 136

1996

Searches for charginos and neutralinos produced in e+e− collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 130 and 136 GeV have been performed under the assumptions that R-parity is not conserved, that the dominant R-parity violating coupling involves only leptonic fields, and that the lifetime of the lightest supersymmetric particle can be neglected. In the 5.7 pb−1 data sample collected by ALEPH, no candidate events were found. As a result, chargino and neutralino masses and couplings are constrained and the domains previously excluded at LEP1 are extended.

A measurement of Rb using a lifetime-mass tag

1997

ALEPH's published measurement of R-b = Gamma(Z --> b (b) over bar)/Gamma(Z --> hadrons) using a lifetime tag is updated using the full LEP 1 data sample. Considerable effort has been devoted to understanding systematic effects. Charm background is better controlled by combining the lifetime tag with a tag based on the b/c hadron mass difference. Furthermore, the algorithm used to reconstruct the event primary vertex is designed so as to reduce correlations between the two hemispheres of an event. The value of R-b is measured to be 0.2167 +/- 0.0011(stat) +/- 0.0013(syst). (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. RI ANTONELLI, ANTONELLA/C-6238-2011; Passalacqua, Luca/F-5127-2011; Murtas, …
