A comparison of jet production rates on the Z0 resonance to perturbative QCD

The production rates for 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-jet hadronic final states have been measured with the DELPHI detector at the e+e- storage ring LEP at centre of mass energies around 91.5 GeV. Fully corrected data are compared to O(αs 2) QCD matrix element calculations and the QCD scale parameter ΛMS is determined for different parametrizations of the renormalization scale μ2. Including all uncertainties our result is αs(MZ 2)=0.114±0.003[stat.]±0.004[syst.]±0.012[theor.] .

A new approach to the ϱ-meson in QCD

We examine whether strict local duality between the asymptotic and the resonance region, which is of course believed to be valid in QCD, already appears at the present stage of QCD calculations. For this purpose we propose a new method of stable analytic extrapolation which follows the spirit of a previously used method but has essential advantages compared to the original formulation. A careful analysis of the present QCD ϱ-amplitude leads indeed to a prominent bump structure in the resonance region. This is a first evidence for the validity of strictly local duality within QCD.

Production of charged pions, kaons, and protons ine+e−annihilations into hadrons ats=10.54  GeV

Inclusive production cross sections of π^±, K^± and p/p per hadronic e^+e^- annihilation event are measured at a center-of-mass energy of 10.54 GeV, using a relatively small sample of very high quality data from the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B-factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The drift chamber and Cherenkov detector provide clean samples of identified π^±, K^±, and p/p over a wide range of momenta. Since the center-of-mass energy is below the threshold to produce a BB pair, with B a bottom-quark meson, these data represent a pure e^+e^-→qq sample with four quark flavors, and are used to test QCD predictions and hadronization models. Measurement of Prompt Photon Production In Hadronic-z Decays

The production of isolated photons in hadronic Z decays is measured with the ALEPH detector at LEP using a sample of 450 000 hadronic events. The corrected rate is given for several values of the minimum invariant mass squared cut between the photon and the jets. This measurement of final state radiation from the quarks is compared with the predictions of parton shower models JETSET, ARIADNE and HERWIG as well as with the predictions of QCD matrix element calculations. Extraction of form Factors from a Four-Dimensional Angular Analysis of B¯→D*ℓ−ν¯ℓ

An angular analysis of the decay B[over ¯]→D^{*}l^{-}ν[over ¯]_{l}, l∈{e,μ}, is reported using the full e^{+}e^{-} collision data set collected by the BABAR experiment at the ϒ(4S) resonance. One B meson from the ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] decay is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode, which constrains the kinematics and provides a determination of the neutrino momentum vector. The kinematics of the semileptonic decay is described by the dilepton mass squared, q^{2}, and three angles. Search for scalar quarks in Z0 decays

A search has been made for pairs of scalar quarks (squarks) produced in e+e- annihilations at LEP (√s≃MZ0), and decaying into a standard quark and a neutral, non-interacting, stable, massive particle (the lightest supersymmetric particle, LSP). The search has been conducted for differences in the mass of the squark and LSP of 2 GeV/c2 and above. Up squarks with masses below 42 GeV/c2 and down squarks below 43 GeV/c2 were excluded. Six squark flavours degenerate in mass were excluded below 45 GeV/c2.

Resummed jet rates for $e^+e^-$ annihilation into massive quarks

Expressions for Sudakov form factors for heavy quarks are presented. They are used to construct resummed jet rates for up to four jets in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. The coefficients of leading and next-to-leading logarithmic corrections, mandatory for a combination with higher order matrix elements, are evaluated up to second order in $\alpha_s$.

The size of and physics beyond the Standard Model

Abstract We analyse the allowed range of values of χ , both in the Standard Model and in models with new physics, pointing out that a relatively large value of χ , e.g., of order λ , is only possible in models where the unitarity of the 3 × 3 Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa matrix is violated through the introduction of extra Q = 2 / 3 quarks. We study the interesting case where the extra quark is an isosinglet, determining the allowed range for χ and the effect of a large χ on various low-energy observables, such as CP asymmetries in B meson decays. On heavy baryon decay form factors

We consider in detail the consequences of the heavy quark mass limit in the weak decay of 1/2+ heavy baryons to 1/2+ and 3/2+ heavy baryon final states. We also analyze heavy baryon to light baryon transitions as well ase+e−-annihilation into heavy baryon-antibaryonpairs. We discuss possible approximations to the most general approach and some of their implications for future experiments.

First measurement of the quark-to-photon fragmentation function

Earlier measurements at LEP of isolated hard photons in hadronic Z decays, attributed to radiation from primary quark pairs, have been extended in the ALEPH experiment to include hard photon production inside hadron jets. Events are selected where all particles combine democratically to form hadron jets, one of which contains a photon with a fractional energy z greater than or equal to 0.7. After statistical subtraction of non-prompt photons, the quark-to-photon fragmentation function, D(z), is extracted directly from the measured 2-jet rate.
