Trends of incidence and survival in squamous-cell carcinoma of the anal canal in France: a population-based study.
2016
IF 2.415; International audience; Data on anal cancer epidemiology are rare. The aim of this study was to report on trends of incidence and survival for anal cancer in France before the implementation of the human papilloma virus vaccine. This analysis was carried out on 1150 squamous-cell carcinomas of the anal canal diagnosed from 1989 to 2004 in a population of 5.7 million people covered by eight population-based cancer registries. Time trends in incidence were modeled using an age-period-cohort model. Net survival rates were obtained using the recently validated unbiased Pohar-Perme estimator. The incidence of squamous-cell carcinoma of the anal canal increased from 0.2 to 0.5/100 000 p…
Anal cancer: ESMO–ESSO–ESTRO clinical practice guidelines for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up
2014
Squamous cell carcinoma of the anus (SCCA) is a rare cancer but its incidence is increasing throughout the world, and is particularly high in the human immunodeficiency virus positive (HIVþ) population. A multidisciplinary approach is mandatory (involving radiation therapists, medical oncologists, surgeons, radiologists and pathologists). SCCA usually spreads in a loco-regional manner within and outside the anal canal. Lymph node involvement at diagnosis is observed in 30%e40% of cases while systemic spread is uncommon with distant extrapelvic metastases recorded in 5%e8% at onset, and rates of metastatic progression after primary treatment between 10 and 20%. SCCA is strongly associated wi…
Clinical and genetic approach in the characterization of newborns with anorectal malformation
2022
Objective: This study aimed to investigate clinical, surgical, and genetic data of neonates with anorectal malformation (ARM). Study design: A retrospective observational study was conducted on neonates with ARM as an isolated type (group 1), with ≤2 (group 2), and with ≥3 associated malformations (group 3), born between 2009 and 2020. Distribution of ARM, associated abnormalities and genetic testing were analyzed, and risk factors for adverse outcomes were identified. Results: The 45 ARM cases (36% females) were divided as follows: 13 neonates belonging to group 1 (29%), 8 to group 2 (18%), and 24 to group 3 (53%). Cases were equally distributed over 11 years. Krickenbeck anatomy was: with…
Mild phenotypes in a series of patients with Opitz GBBB syndrome with MID1 mutations
2004
Contains fulltext : 48815.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Opitz syndrome (OS; MIM 145410 and MIM 300000) is a congenital midline malformation syndrome characterized by hypertelorism, hypospadias, cleft lip/palate, laryngotracheoesophageal (LTE) abnormalities, imperforate anus, developmental delay, and cardiac defects. The X-linked form (XLOS) is caused by mutations in the MID1 gene, which encodes a microtubule-associated RBCC protein. In this study, phenotypic manifestations of patients with and without MID1 mutations were compared to determine genotype-phenotype correlations. We detected 10 novel mutations, 5 in familial cases, 2 in sporadic cases, and 3 in families for whom it …
Contrasting parental roles shape sex differences in poison frog space use but not navigational performance
2022
Sex differences in vertebrate spatial abilities are typically interpreted under the adaptive specialization hypothesis, which posits that male reproductive success is linked to larger home ranges and better navigational skills. The androgen spillover hypothesis counters that enhanced male spatial performance may be a byproduct of higher androgen levels. Animal groups that include species where females are expected to outperform males based on life-history traits are key for disentangling these hypotheses. We investigated the association between sex differences in reproductive strategies, spatial behavior, and androgen levels in three species of poison frogs. We tracked individuals in natura…

Image-Guided Synthesis Reveals Potent Blood-Brain Barrier Permeable Histone Deacetylase Inhibitors
2014
Recent studies have revealed that several histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors, which are used to study/treat brain diseases, show low blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetration. In addition to low HDAC potency and selectivity observed, poor brain penetrance may account for the high doses needed to achieve therapeutic efficacy. Here we report the development and evaluation of highly potent and blood-brain barrier permeable HDAC inhibitors for CNS applications based on an image-guided approach involving the parallel synthesis and radiolabeling of a series of compounds based on the benzamide HDAC inhibitor, MS-275 as a template. BBB penetration was optimized by rapid carbon-11 labeling and PET im…
EFFETTO DELLA PRESSURIZZAZIONE DEI FORI E DELL’INDENTAZIONE ANULARE SULLA VITA A FATICA DI PROVINI IN LEGA DI ALLUMINIO
2011
2001
Taking as its core the attitude toward the advertisement, this study attempts to determine the mechanisms through which advertising influences consumers' attitudes and buying behaviour. These mechanisms are analysed in terms of involvement with the message and with the execution of the ad, and in terms of the strength of the arguments used in the ad. The study finds that the involvement with the message and with the execution of the ad, determinates the antecedents and consequences of the ad. But the strength of the arguments does not explain these relations. En la presente investigación se pretende tomando como núcleo central de la misma la actitud hacia el anuncio, determinar los mecanism…
