A note on homoclinic solutions of (p,q)-Laplacian difference equations

2019

We prove the existence of at least two positive homoclinic solutions for a discrete boundary value problem of equations driven by the (p,q) -Laplace operator. The properties of the nonlinearity ensure that the energy functional, corresponding to the problem, satisfies a mountain pass geometry and a Palais–Smale compactness condition.

Elementary hypergeometric functions, Heun functions, and moments of MKZ operators

2019

We consider some hypergeometric functions and prove that they are elementary functions. Consequently, the second order moments of Meyer-Konig and Zeller type operators are elementary functions. The higher order moments of these operators are expressed in terms of elementary functions and polylogarithms. Other applications are concerned with the expansion of certain Heun functions in series or finite sums of elementary hypergeometric functions.

Ordinary (p1,…,pm)-Laplacian systems with mixed boundary value conditions

2016

Abstract In this paper we prove the existence of multiple weak solutions for an ordinary mixed boundary value system with ( p 1 , … , p m )-Laplacian by using recent results of critical points.

Harnack's inequality for p-harmonic functions via stochastic games

2013

We give a proof of asymptotic Lipschitz continuity of p-harmonious functions, that are tug-of-war game analogies of ordinary p-harmonic functions. This result is used to obtain a new proof of Lipsc...

Fine properties of functions with bounded variation in Carnot-Carathéodory spaces

2019

Abstract We study properties of functions with bounded variation in Carnot-Caratheodory spaces. We prove their almost everywhere approximate differentiability and we examine their approximate discontinuity set and the decomposition of their distributional derivatives. Under an additional assumption on the space, called property R , we show that almost all approximate discontinuities are of jump type and we study a representation formula for the jump part of the derivative.

Boundary correspondence of Nevanlinna counting functions for self-maps of the unit disc

2003

Let ϕ \phi be a holomorphic self-map of the unit disc D \mathbb {D} . For every α ∈ ∂ D \alpha \in \partial \mathbb {D} , there is a measure τ α \tau _\alpha on ∂ D \partial \mathbb {D} (sometimes called Aleksandrov measure) defined by the Poisson representation Re ⁡ ( α + ϕ ( z ) ) / ( α − ϕ ( z ) ) = ∫ P ( z , ζ ) d τ α ( ζ ) \operatorname {Re}(\alpha +\phi (z))/(\alpha -\phi (z)) = \int P(z,\zeta ) \,d\tau _\alpha (\zeta ) . Its singular part σ α \sigma _\alpha measures in a natural way the “affinity” of ϕ \phi for the boundary value α \alpha . The affinity for values w w inside D \mathbb {D} is provided by the Nevanlinna counting function N ( w ) N(w) of ϕ \phi . We introduce a natural …

A priori bounds and multiplicity of solutions for an indefinite elliptic problem with critical growth in the gradient

2019

Let $\Omega \subset \mathbb R^N$, $N \geq 2$, be a smooth bounded domain. We consider a boundary value problem of the form $$-\Delta u = c_{\lambda}(x) u + \mu(x) |\nabla u|^2 + h(x), \quad u \in H^1_0(\Omega)\cap L^{\infty}(\Omega)$$ where $c_{\lambda}$ depends on a parameter $\lambda \in \mathbb R$, the coefficients $c_{\lambda}$ and $h$ belong to $L^q(\Omega)$ with $q>N/2$ and $\mu \in L^{\infty}(\Omega)$. Under suitable assumptions, but without imposing a sign condition on any of these coefficients, we obtain an a priori upper bound on the solutions. Our proof relies on a new boundary weak Harnack inequality. This inequality, which is of independent interest, is established in the gener…

Extensions of the Noncommutative Integration

2016

In this paper we will continue the analysis undertaken in Bagarello et al. (Rend Circ Mat Palermo (2) 55:21–28, 2006), Bongiorno et al. (Rocky Mt J Math 40(6):1745–1777, 2010), Triolo (Rend Circ Mat Palermo (2) 60(3):409–416, 2011) on the general problem of extending the noncommutative integration in a *-algebra of measurable operators. As in Aiena et al. (Filomat 28(2):263–273, 2014), Bagarello (Stud Math 172(3):289–305, 2006) and Bagarello et al. (Rend Circ Mat Palermo (2) 55:21–28, 2006), the main problem is to represent different types of partial *-algebras into a *-algebra of measurable operators in Segal’s sense, provided that these partial *-algebras posses a sufficient family of pos…

Abstract This paper is related to the problem of finding a good notion of rectifiability in sub-Riemannian geometry. In particular, we study which kind of results can be expected for smooth hypersurfaces in Carnot groups. Our main contribution will be a consequence of the following result: there exists a C ∞ -hypersurface S without characteristic points that has uncountably many pairwise non-isomorphic tangent groups on every positive-measure subset. The example is found in a Carnot group of topological dimension 8, it has Hausdorff dimension 12 and so we use on it the Hausdorff measure H 12 . As a consequence, we show that any Lipschitz map defined on a subset of a Carnot group of Hausdorf…
