Antioxidant activity and enzymes inhibitory properties of several extracts from two Moroccan Asteraceae species
2018
Abstract The present work reports investigation on phenolic compounds, antioxidant activity and enzyme inhibitory activities (acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, tyrosinase, α-amylase and α-glucosidase) of different extracts from two Moroccan Asteraceae species; Bubonium imbricatum Cav. and Cladanthus arabicus (L.) Cass. B. imbricatum extracts contained the highest amounts of phenolics and flavonoids, and also exhibited higher antioxidant activity. In this species, the highest total phenolic (1611.13 ± 14.23 μmolGAE/gextract) and flavonoid (376.11 ± 8.22 μmolQE/gextract) contents were observed in aqueous-methanol extract obtained by maceration. Further, UHPLC–MS analysis of C. arab…
Spray-Drying Performance and Thermal Stability of L-Ascorbic Acid Microencapsulated with Sodium Alginate and Gum Arabic
2019
[EN] The potential of sodium alginate (ALG) and gum arabic (GA) as wall polymers for Lascorbic acid (AA) encapsulation as a tool for their preservation against the thermo-oxidative degradation was investigated. The influence of such polymers used as wall material on the AAcontent, size, encapsulation efficiency, encapsulation yield and thermo-oxidative stability were evaluated. The AA-microparticles were obtained using the spray-drying technique. An experimental Taguchi design was employed to assess the influence of the variables in the encapsulation process. The microparticles morphology and size distribution were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and laser diffraction. The the…
DNA barcoding of marine fishes from Saudi Arabian waters of the Gulf
2019
We used the cytochrome oxidase subunit I (coI) gene DNA to barcode 117 endemic Gulf and cosmopolitan Indo-West Pacific fish species belonging to 54 families and 13 orders. Novel DNA barcodes were provided for 18 fish species (Trachinocephalus sp., Nematalosa sp., Herklotsichthys lossei, Upeneus doriae, Trachurus indicus, Apogonichthyoides taeniatus, Verulux cypselurus, Favonigobius sp., Suezichthus gracilis, Sillago sp., Brachirus orientalis, Pegusa sp., Lepidotrigla bispinosa, Lepidotrigla sp., Grammoplites suppositus, Hippichthys sp., Paramonacanthus sp. and Triacanthus sp.). The species delimitation analysis, conducted with Poisson tree processes- Bayesian PTP (PTP-bPTP) and nucleotide-d…
Ibn Sab'in
2011
‘Abd al-Haqq ibn Sab‘ı¯n was born in the Ricote Valley, near Cieza, in the Kingdom of Murcia sometimes between the year 613 and 614 of the Hegira (1216 or 1217 CE). He studied Arabic, Andalusi literature, logic and philosophy, medicine, alchemy, white magic, and the ‘‘Science of Names and Letters.’’ At that time Ibn Khala¯s: was the qadi of Ceuta. He chose Ibn Sab‘ın to answer the philosophical questions sent by the emperor Frederick II of Hohenstaufen. It has been contended that Ibn Sab‘ı¯n was forced to leave his new hometown after answering the emperor’s arguments. What seems more likely, however, is that his Sufi ideas were not very popular with the political chief of the town. The time…
Outcome of COVID19 in Patients With Osteogenesis Imperfecta: A Retrospective Multicenter Study in Saudi Arabia
2022
BackgroundAlthough genetic diseases are rare, children with such conditions who get infected with COVID-19 tend to have a severe illness requiring hospitalization. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare genetic disorder of collagen resulting in fractures and skeletal deformities. Kyphoscoliosis, restrictive lung disease, and pneumonia worsen the prognosis of patients with OI. The use of bisphosphonate improves bone mineral density (BMD) and reduces fractures in OI. There is no literature describing the impact of COVID-19 in patients with OI.MethodologyA retrospective multi-center study was performed in three hospitals in Jeddah and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from March 1st, 2020, until August 31…
Il sistema delle relazioni tra Magrib al-aqsa e mondo arabo-ottomano in epoca sa'diana. Il ruolo degli ulama' a partire dalla produzione biografica
2012
The history of Islam has always been characterized by a system of continuous osmosis and interactions between Arabic West (Maġrib) and East (Mašriq). This study aims at analyzing the peculiar system of relationships between al-Maġrib al-aqṣā and al-dawla al-'uṯmāniyya during the Sa'dian period (16th - 17th centuries). Starting from the unexplored outstanding Arabic literary production - mainly maġribian biographical dictionaries (tarāǧim) and travel accounts (riḥlāt) - the author focuses on the uninterrupted system of ties and contacts (rawābiṭ and ṣilāt) among maġribian and mašriqian 'ulamā' as well as on the modalities of transmission of knowledges within the Arab-Islamic World. Through t…

Arabic Literary Biography. Contacts between Maghreb and Sudanese 'ulama' in 16th-17th Century Biographical Dictionaries.
2017
This paper aims at analysing the network of contacts (ṣilāt, rawābiṭ) between maghribi and sudanese ‘ulamā’ in 16th-17th century, starting from the analysis of a peculiar typology of Arabic literary sources: the "kutub al-tarāğim" or biographical dictionaries. The maghribian conquest of the Bilād al-Sūdān, pursued in 1591 by the far-seeing expansionistic policy of the Sa‘dian sultan Aḥmad al-Manṣūr al-Ḏahabī (1578-1603) - probably the most important and best known Sa‘dian sovereign - enhanced the ancient uninterrupted network of contacts and interactions among ‘ulamā’ throughout the Arab World, which is testified even by the Medieval Arabic historical, geographical and literary sources. Aḥm…
