Individuals and Collectivity between the Principle of noncontradiction and joint commitment

In this paper I pay attention to and reflect upon the role and the nature of the human being considered as an individual that acts in a collective dimension and thus contributes to build a social reality. What is required to talk of collectivity? Is it anything that goes beyond the interacting individuals or not? In order to talk of collectivity, do we need to talk of a plural subject as well as of collective beliefs, (as Margaret Gilbert does), or not? These are some questions that are addressed in my paper. In this paper we develop one way to represent and reason with temporal relations in the context of multiple experts. Every relation between temporal intervals consists of four endpoints’ relations. It is supposed that the context we know is the value of every expert competence concerning every endpoint relation. Il libro propone un'interpretazione delle principali teorie retoriche novecentesche mettendo in discussione la tradizione plurisecolare che, vedendo ben distinte (al limite, opposte) la funzione informativa e quella persuasiva del linguaggio, oppone la persuasione alla verità. Il superamento di questa opposizione può venire dalla retorica classica. Attraverso un viaggio tra le tappe del percorso di rinascita della retorica, si propone un'idea di retorica come luogo nel quale emerge l'intreccio, cruciale per la riflessione sulla natura umana, tra linguaggio, cognizione, desiderio e responsabilità.

This paper sustains that rhetoric can be a fruitful way of practicing philosophy of language. The startingpoint is a suggestion drawn from the work of the Italian philosopher Roberto Esposito. Today it is generally accepted that the main differences between the "Rhetoric to Alexander" and Aristotle’s "Rhetoric" depend on the different aims of each work’s author: essentially practical in the first case, theoretical in the second one. Drawing a map of Aristotle's works on the basis of these cross-references, it will possible to build an interface to navigate inside Aristotle's corpus and to reconstruct a network of the connections among several layers of his philosophical and scientific project.
