From laparoscopic assisted radical vaginal hysterectomy to vaginal assisted laparoscopic radical hysterectomy
2011
Radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy is the standard surgical treatment for patients with early stage cervical cancer. The majority of radical hysterectomies are performed with the open technique. However, laparoscopic, combined laparoscopic and vaginal, and robotic-assisted approaches may also be used. Compared with the abdominal radical hysterectomy (ARH), laparoscopic techniques are associated with less blood loss, shorter hospital stay, better cosmesis, and faster recovery. A further breakthrough in laparoscopic technique can only be made if safety and oncological clearance are comparable with ARH. We describe the technique and results of laparoscopic assisted radical vagina…
Temporal Trend in the Frequency of Ectopic Pregnancies in Lombardy, Italy
2012
Background: In recent years, epidemiological data showed that the incidence of ectopic pregnancies (EP) is decreasing, but few data are available on the time trend in Southern European populations. Methods: Using data from the Lombardy Region Database, we calculated and standardized the EP rates/10,000 resident women and the ratios/1,000 pregnancies. Results: Data regarding 1,777,011 pregnancies and 17,028 cases of EP were recorded among women resident in Lombardy between 1996 and 2010, aged 15-50 years old. The age-adjusted EP rates increased from 4.4 in 1996 to 5.8 in 2010. Th…
Implantation is apparently unaffected by the dopamine agonist Cabergoline when administered to prevent ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in women und…
2007
Background Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a result of ovarian overexpression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor 2 (VEGFR2). VEGF/VEGFR2 binding disrupts cellular junctions and increases vascular permeability (VP), a characteristic of OHSS, but enhances angiogenesis, which is a fundamental step in implantation. In animals, the dopamine agonist Cabergoline (Cb2) prevents VP without affecting angiogenesis. In humans, Cb2 averts OHSS, but a possible detrimental effect on angiogenesis and implantation has not been explored. A pilot study was designed to analyze whether or not Cb2 administration, as a procedure for preventing OHSS, affects the outcome of as…
Collapse of blastocysts is strongly related to lower implantation success: a time-lapse study.
2015
Study question Is there an association between blastocyst collapse patterns and implantation potential? Summary answer Embryos that exhibit collapse are as likely to hatch as those that do not, but are less likely to implant and should not be replaced if alternatives are available. What is known already Studies of blastocyst collapse in different species of mammals have found that most blastocysts, that experience consecutive weak contractions, hatch successfully whereas those that exhibit strong contractions or collapse, fail to hatch. Study design, size, duration Retrospective cohort study. Seven hundred and fifteen transferred blastocysts were analyzed from July 2012 to May 2013. Partici…
Caracterización de barita cubana y su reducción carbotérmica en horno de microondas
2007
The Cuban Barite (BaSO4) is characterized by X ray diffraction, chemical analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The principal components are identified and its characteristic morphology is shown. Its carbothermic reduction under microwave irradiation is carried out with the purpose of to improve the yield of this stage during the mineral transformation process in reagent of barium of diverse applications.
Phenol profiling and nutraceutical potential of Lycium spp. Leaf extracts obtained with ultrasound and microwave assisted techniques
2019
In recent years, agricultural and industrial residues have attracted a lot of interest in the recovery of phytochemicals used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. In this paper, a study on the recovery of phenol compounds from Lycium spp. leaves is presented. Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) have been used with alcoholic and hydroalcoholic solvents. Methanolic UAE was the most successful technique for extracting phenols from Lycium leaves, and we used on leaves from L. barbarum and L. chinense cultivated in Italy. The extracts were then characterized as regards to the antioxidant properties by in vitro assays and the phenol profil…
Hair Mercury Levels Detection in Fishermen from Sicily (Italy) by ICP-MS Method after Microwave-Assisted Digestion
2015
A number of ninety-six hair samples from Sicilian fishermen were examined for total mercury detection by an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) method. The mercury levels obtained were compared with mercury levels of 96 hair samples from a control group, in order to assess potential exposure to heavy metals of Sicilian fishermen due to fish consumption and closeness to industrial activities. Furthermore, the mercury levels obtained from hair samples were sorted by sampling area in order to verify the possible risks linked to the different locations. The overall mean concentration in the hair of the population of fishermen was6.45±7.03 μg g−1, with a highest value in a fish…
Microwave-assisted, highly enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aromatic aldehydes catalyzed by chiral aminonaphthols
2008
Abstract New optically active aminonaphthols were obtained by condensation of 2-naphthol, benzaldehyde and ( R )-(+)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine or ( R )-(+)-1-(2-naphthyl)ethylamine. Their N-methylated derivatives were also synthesized. The new aminonaphthols 2 , 4 , 5 and 7 were found to catalyze the enantioselective ethylation of aryl aldehydes to 1-aryl-1-propanols (up to 92% ee). The reactions were accelerated greatly by microwave irradiation.

Comparison between catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted propene hydration by using supported heteropolyacid
2012
Abstract Hybrid materials have been prepared by impregnation of the heteropolyacid H 3 PW 12 O 40 on commercial TiO 2 . The polyoxometalates (POM) amount deposited was 15, 30, 50 and 70% with respect to the weight of the TiO 2 support. Moreover two samples containing a POM amount of 15, and 50% with respect to the weight of SiO 2 were also prepared for the sake of comparison. All prepared samples were efficient catalysts for the hydration of propene to 2-propanol in gas–solid regime at atmospheric pressure and at temperatures ranging between 50 and 85 °C. The study carried out on the hybrid TiO 2 based materials evidenced that, as far as the catalytic activity is concerned, exists an optimu…
