Testbed evaluation of optimized REACT over multi-hop paths

2018

REACT is a distributed resource allocation protocol that computes a max-min allocation of airtime for mesh networks. The allocation adapts automatically to changes in local traffic load and in local network views. SALT, a new contention window tuning algorithm, ensures that each node secures the airtime allocated to it by REACT. REACT and SALT are extended to the multi-hop flow scenario with the introduction of a new airtime reservation algorithm. With a reservation in place, multi-hop TCP flows show increased throughput when running over SALT and REACT compared to running over 802.11 DCF. All results are obtained from experimentation on the w-iLab.t wireless network testbed in Belgium.

UDP flows in Cognitive Radios with Channel Aggregation and Fragmentation: A Test-bed Based Evaluation

2018

Channel aggregation (CA) and channel fragmentation (CF) have been studied extensively in cognitive radios (CRs) for many years. However, a test-bed evaluation for such techniques at flow level is still open. In this study, employing National Instruments devices, a test-bed is set up to evaluate the performance of UDP flows for CRs with CA and CF, considering the aspects of blocking, preemption, and throughput in probability. The measurements clearly show that there are performance improvements in applying CA and CF in CRs for UDP flows.

Reliable Underlay Device-to-Device Communications on Multiple Channels

2019

Device-to-device (D2D) communications provide a substantial increase in spectrum usage and efficiency by allowing nearby users to communicate directly without passing their packets through the base station (BS). In previous works, proper channel assignment and power allocation algorithms for sharing of channels between cellular users and D2D pairs, usually require exact knowledge of the channel-state-information (CSI). However, due to the non-stationary wireless environment and the need to limit the communication and computation overheads, obtaining perfect CSI in the D2D communication scenario is generally not possible. In this work, we propose a joint channel assignment and power allocati…

Dynamic Flow-Adaptive Spectrum Leasing with Channel Aggregation in Cognitive Radio Networks.

2020

Cognitive radio networks (CRNs), which allow secondary users (SUs) to dynamically access a network without affecting the primary users (PUs), have been widely regarded as an effective approach to mitigate the shortage of spectrum resources and the inefficiency of spectrum utilization. However, the SUs suffer from frequent spectrum handoffs and transmission limitations. In this paper, considering the quality of service (QoS) requirements of PUs and SUs, we propose a novel dynamic flow-adaptive spectrum leasing with channel aggregation. Specifically, we design an adaptive leasing algorithm, which adaptively adjusts the portion of leased channels based on the number of ongoing and buffered PU …

State Space-Vector Model of Linear Induction Motors Including End-effects and Iron Losses - Part II: Model Identification and Results

2020

This is the second part of an article, divided into two parts, dealing with the definition of a space-vector dynamic model of the linear induction motor (LIM) taking into consideration both the dynamic end-effects and the iron losses as well as the offline identification of its parameters. This second part is devoted to the description of an identification technique that has been suitably developed for the estimation of the electrical parameters of the LIM dynamic model accounting for both the dynamic end-effects and iron losses. Such an identification technique is strictly related to the state formulation of the proposed model and exploits genetic algorithms for minimizing a suitable cost …

Analyse expérimentale et numérique du comportement de véhicules terrestres en présence d'un vent latéral instationnaire

2013

The automotive manufacturers are nowadays more and more interested in crosswind aerodynamics. Indeed, the driver is subjected every day to strong side air flows, for example when overtaking another vehicle or when passing through a lateral wind wall, generated by terrain topography (as in the case of the passage near the empty space between two buildings). The aerodynamic efforts generated in these situations can lead to undesired lateral deviations, which can be dramatic if the driver is surprised. Different experimental studies, reproducing the effects of a dynamic yaw angle, pointed out the issues of the steady methods, commonly used to qualify the vehicle crosswind behaviour. Little is st…

dSDiVN: A Distributed Software-Defined Networking Architecture for Infrastructure-Less Vehicular Networks

2017

In the last few years, the emerging network architecture paradigm of Software-Defined Networking (SDN), has become one of the most important technology to manage large scale networks such as Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). Recently, several works have shown interest in the use of SDN paradigm in VANETs. SDN brings flexibility, scalability and management facility to current VANETs. However, almost all of proposed Software-Defined VANET (SDVN) architectures are infrastructure-based. This paper will focus on how to enable SDN in infrastructure-less vehicular environments. For this aim, we propose a novel distributed SDN-based architecture for uncovered infrastructure-less vehicular scenari…

A Novel Wideband MIMO Car-to-Car Channel Model Based on a Geometrical Semi-Circular Tunnel Scattering Model

2016

In this paper, we present a wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) car-to-car (C2C) channel model based on a geometrical semi-circular tunnel (SCT) scattering model. From the geometrical SCT scattering model, a reference channel model is derived under the assumption of single-bounce scattering in line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS (NLOS) propagation environments. In the proposed reference channel model, it is assumed that an infinite number of scatterers are randomly distributed on the tunnel wall. Starting from the geometrical scattering model, the time-variant transfer function (TVTF) is derived, and its correlation properties in time, frequency, and space are studied. Expressions ar…

A dynamic channel access strategy for underlay cognitive radio networks: Markov modelling and performance evaluation

2015

Unlike in overlay cognitive radio networks, secondary users in underlay cognitive radio networks can access licensed spectrum even at the presence of a primary user, given that the interference caused by the secondary transmission is lower than a pre-specified threshold. Based on this underlay access principle, we propose in this paper a dynamic channel access strategy for multi-channel cognitive radio networks. Different from existing underlay access techniques, channel assembling, spectrum adaptation and restricted channel occupancy are also considered in the proposed strategy in order to achieve better performance in the secondary network. Accordingly, a partial channel occupancy mode, w…

Sparsity-aware narrowband interference mitigation and subcarriers selection in OFDM-based cognitive radio networks

2016

In this paper, the performance of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing overlay cognitive radio network with subcarrier selection schemes is investigated. We propose three subcarrier selection techniques that reduce the level of interference at the primary base station based on collected channel state information from the different network nodes. Approximated outage probability expressions are also derived and verified by simulations for the different studied techniques. In addition, we propose and investigate a new approach for asynchronous narrowband interference (NBI) estimation and mitigation in cognitive radio networks. The proposed approach does not require prior knowledge of …
