The article deals, through an analysis of a ruling by the Court of Cassation, with the principle of self-sufficiency of the transcription note. According to this ruling, in particular, only the content of the note must be considered in order to establish whether and to what extent a given act …

Autonomy and patient prisoners

2007

Agencification and location: Does agency site matter?

2011

Published version of an article published in Public Organization Review, 11(2), 97-108. Also available from the publisher at http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11115-010-0113-8 Two decades of New Public Management have placed agencifiction high on the agenda of administrative policy-makers. However, agencification (and de-agencification) has been one of the enduring themes of public administration. Agencies organized at arm's length from ministerial departments have fairly often been located outside of the capital or political centre. Although practitioners tend to assign some weight to central versus peripheral location as regards political-administrative behavior, this relationship has been almos…

Female knowledge workers and the illusion of working-time autonomy

2017

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to ask: what are the temporal realities of female knowledge workers? It especially focusses on women’s possibilities of using working-time autonomy, and the work and non-work practices that shape their possibility to use work-hour autonomy. In knowledge work, working-time autonomy is usually high, but exercising autonomy is not always possible. The study was carried out in Finland, where full-time work is common also among women, even if they have small children. Design/methodology/approach The data include 19 semi-structured interviews of women who have knowledge-intensive work. The method of analysis is problem-driven content analysis. Findings Female…

Parental and professional agency in terminations for fetal anomalies: analysis of Finnish women's accounts

2013

This study explores the construction of parental and professional agency in the written accounts by women who have undergone selective abortion (N=8). The analysis of the data was based on qualitative, linguistic discourse analysis. The accounts indicate that the mothers themselves exhibited both strong and weak agency during the process of prenatal diagnosis. The role of the professionals was usually discussed in these accounts concerning only the phases of pregnancy when something out of ordinary had been detected. After the termination, the mothers expressed that they were forced to exhibit strong agency and find ways to cope with their distress unaided due to a lack of professional supp…

A finn tanárképzési rendszer [The system of Finnish teacher education]

2018

A jelen országtanulmány alapvető információkon kívül jó gyakorlatokat is ismertet. Ezek elsősorban a jyväskyläi tanárképzésből származnak, mivel a szerzők ennek keretében dolgoznak. peerReviewed

Journalistic Autonomy as a Professional Value and Element of Journalism Culture: The European Perspective

2017

The current combination of economic recession and info-technological revolution is drastically affecting the working environment of journalists and challenging their autonomy more than ever. This article focuses on how journalists in specific European countries perceive professional autonomy and analyzes the various factors that affect such autonomy. Continuity and discontinuity in journalism cultures are factors that can help us to understand the barriers to media independence and the occupational freedom of journalists. Periods of political and economic instability or crisis can bring about a break down in professional values, the loss of whole journalistic communities, and abrupt changes…

2014

Anotācija Promocijas darba mērķis ir analizēt augšupvērstas inovācijas universitātē, tās specifiskajā strukturālās varas, profesionālās autonomijas un profesionālo prakses kopienu kontekstā. Pētījums veikts izmantojot konstrukcionisma pieeju datos pamatotās vidēja līmeņa teorijas izveidei. Teorētiskie jēdzieni aizgūti no situatīvās mācīšanās teorijas, papildinātas ar mikro-institucionālisma pieeju un varas konceptualizācijām. Veikta 30 mikro-gadījumu analīze divās Latvijas universitātēs. Pētījumā raksturota augšupvērstu inovāciju daudzveidība, izveidoti trīs inovāciju virzīšanas modeļi, identificēta to iznākumu ietekme uz inovācijas rosinātāju identitāti un piederību. Autore saista šos rezu…

Transport and partitioning of 13C-photoassimilate between peach fruiting shoots

2008

We used a non-intrusive method (13CO2 feeding) and a manipulative approach to see whether fruiting shoots in peach trees are autonomous or may import carbon from neighboring shoots under forced conditions, and whether the degree of autonomy is influenced by the source-sink relationship on the shoot. In three experiments, leaf to fruit ratio (L:F) of selected fruiting shoots was moderately (2005 and 2006) or strongly (extreme enforcing 2006) altered to either encourage or discourage movement of carbon from 13C-labeled sending shoots (SFS) to receiving fruiting shoots (RFS), both located on the same main scaffold of V-shaped peach trees. At stage I and III of fruit growth, fruit and shoot tip…
