Social Return on Investment (SROI)

2013

The Social Return on Investment (SROI) is a method for measuring social outputs and valuing social outcomes in monetary terms (Boyd, 2004). The basic assumption underlying this technique is that every kind of business or organization (enterprises, private businesses, public body, charitable organizations and others) has an impact on people, society and environment. This impact can be strictly ‘economical’, but also ‘social’ and ‘environmental’. The SROI technique, however, speaks of ‘social impact’ referring generally to all aforesaid three kinds of impacts. The value to be measured by means of SROI Analysis is an added value. Then it does not consider the social value that would occur even…

Applying systems thinking concepts in the analysis of knowledge sharing on WeChat.

2019

This research is intended to theoretically investigate and analyse the characteristics of WeChat and its effect on knowledge sharing through a systems thinking approach. As one of the most popular mobile social application in China, WeChat has social attributes and the functions of multimedia interaction platform and has been gradually used in knowledge management practice. On one hand, comparing with virtual communities of practice, WeChat provides a more open and individual environment which break free the shackles of workplace relations. On the other hand, as a user-operated media and instant messaging software, WeChat has dramatically different structure with academic social network sit…

Assessing the effect of transmission constraints on wind power expansion in northeast Brazil

2019

Abstract The rapid growth of the wind industry in Brazil presents new opportunities and challenges for its electricity industry. As new capacity becomes available, more transmission infrastructure is required for security of supply. The Brazilian electricity system has experienced congestion in the northeast region, affecting the coordinated expansion of transmission and new wind power capacity. This paper uses a simulation model for better assessing long-term policy synchrony of the wind industry. The simulation shows that the resulting prices are competitive in the middle to long terms.

A dynamic business modelling approach to design and experiment new business venture strategies

2018

Abstract Business Modelling has evolved as a key activity to reflect new business venture strategy by framing the way a firm will operate and how it will function in achieving its goals (e.g., profitability, growth, innovation, social impact). However, scholars and practitioners have criticized the adoption of a too static perspective in the design and use of conventional Business Model representations. Such a static perspective prevents nascent entrepreneurs experimenting with their Business Models and, as a result, identifying the most effective strategies, especially in terms of business sustainability and profitability. In this paper, we argue that combining conventional Business Model …

Storiografie "glocaliste" e "intertemporali" - Intorno alla Ragioneria a Palermo -

2010

L’articolo pone in premessa (par. In quest’ottica esso tratta in seguito (par.

Strategic Asset Building and Competitive Strategies for SMEs which Compete with Industry Giants

2014

This chapter studies companies which are arguably business super-heroes – the small firms which despite the apparent handicap of very limited resources are able to compete against much larger, multinational firms – the micro-giants Davids that take on Goliaths. Through a process of detailed case studies of actual firms, analysis of asset structure, and experiments with a simulation model, the relationships between key assets, critical success factors, and micro-giant competiveness are explored. The model produces six scenarios reflecting different strategies for developing tangible and intangible assets and, critically, the balance between them. A level of aggression is needed in asset buil…
