Pressure stability field of Mg-perovskite under deep mantle conditions: A topological approach based on Bader's analysis coupled with catastrophe the…
2019
Abstract The pressure stability field of the Mg-perovskite phase was investigated by characterizing the evolution of the electron arrangement in the crystal. Ab initio calculations of the perovskite structures in the range 0–185 GPa were performed at the HF/DFT (Hartree-Fock/Density Functional Theory) exchange–correlation terms level. The electron densities, calculated throughout the ab-initio wave functions, were analysed by means of the Bader's theory, coupled with Thom's catastrophe theory. To the best of our knowledge the approach is used for the first time. The topological results show the occurrence of two topological anomalies at P~20 GPa and P~110 GPa which delineate the pressure ra…
Breaking bad news: How to cope.
2018
Physicians often are uncomfortable when communicating an unfavorable outcome: they feel inadequate in the face of uncontrollable disease and unprepared to manage the emotional reactions of patients. For lack of proper training, they often adopt inappropriate ways to disclose unfavorable information. We will outline some key points about the issue of disclosing bad news and aim to provide useful tools to physicians who have to cope frequently with breaking bad news to patients, providing examples and clinical sceneries specific to gastroenterology and hepatology practice.
Relationships between a new slope morphometric index and calanchi erosion in northern Sicily, Italy
2012
The Italian badlands, or “calanchi”, are common landforms in Mediterranean areas including central and southern Italy. Calanchi landforms may be compared to small hydrographic basins. These landforms are characterised by dense, hierarchical and rapidly evolving drainage systems carved into steep clayey slopes and by a sharply alternating pattern of furrows and narrow, generally sharp crests. This work presents a study of morphometric characteristics and a statistical analysis for two sites in northern Sicily (Italy), on outcrops of silty-clay deposits affected by active erosion processes, which give this area a typical calanchi landscape. In particular, factors closely linked to the charact…
Self-enforcing international environmental agreements with a stock pollutant
2005
In this paper the stability of an International Environmental Agreement (IEA) among N identical countries that emit a pollutant are studied using a two-stage game. In the first stage each country decides noncooperatively whether or not to join an IEA, and in the second stage signatories jointly against nonsignatories determine their emissions in a dynamic setting defined in continuous time. For this second stage we have studied both the open-loop Nash equilibrium and the feedback Nash equilibrium. A numerical simulation shows that a bilateral coalition is the unique self-enforcing IEA independently of the gains coming from cooperation and the kind of strategies played by the agents (open-lo…
Investigation of committed radiation dose rate and relationships between alkaline metals concentrations in mushroom Xerocomus badius / Badanie wchłon…
2012
Abstract The fruiting bodies of fungi sprout from mycelium are capable of accumulating significant amounts of trace elements, both metals and metalloids. Content of these elements in fruiting bodies may exceed their concentration in the substrate where fungi develop. Among the elements the radioactive nuclides are also present. In this work health risk caused by increased radioactivity dose absorbed with Xerocomus badius bay bolete consumption was estimated. In analysis concentrations of radioactive isotopes 137Cs and 40K were taken into consideration. It was found that moderate ingestion of bay bolete does not create health risk due to increased radioactive substances intake. The amount of…
Wykorzystanie ram jakości M.J. Epplera do ewaluacji jakości informacji serwisów internetowych PWSZ
2019
The article presents the evaluation of information quality on the websites of the State Higher Vocational Schools (PWSZ) in Poland. The information quality framework proposed by M.J. Eppler was adopted as a diagnostic tool to identify gaps in information quality. The assessment was conducted from the user's perspective. Firstly, the ranking of the PWSZ sites in Poland was created. Secondly, the criteria for the quality of information in the website infrastructure were analysed. The conclusions result in a statement that most websites demonstrate a low level of information quality. The scope of synthetic measures ranges from 60.0% to 90.8% which indicates a wide variation in the information …
"Adenīna biosintēzes ceļa mutāciju ietekme uz maizes rauga centrālo oglekļa metabolismu slāpekļa un purīnu badināšanas laikā."
2021
Darbā tika apskatītas izmaiņas maizes rauga purīnu de novo sintēzes knock-out celmu oglekļa plūsmās un trehalozes koncentrācijā biomasā slāpekļa vai adenīna badinātiem celmiem šūnu straujās augšanas fāzes laikā. Auksotrofiem celmiem novēro samazinātu augšanas ātrumu un glikozes uzņemšanu, augot vidē bez slāpekļa vai bez adenīna. Celmiem novēro tendenci palielināties trehalozes sastāvam biomasā barotnē bez adenīna vai bez slāpekļa. Četriem adenīna badinātiem auksotrofiem celmiem novēro palielinātu oglekļa plūsmu ieguldījumu glicerola veidošanā un samazinātu biomasas veidošanā, jo īpaši celmam Δade16-17, kuram arī nenovēro izmaiņas augšanas ātrumos un glikozes patēriņā izmantotajās barotnēs.
