Angļu valoda stjuartiem: mācību grāmatu un tiešsaistes materiālu izvērtēšana
2019

The aim of the article is an analysis of the contemporary Polish-Chinese language contacts, evaluated on the basis of the presence of the course books for teaching Chinese to Poles, phrase books and bilingual dictionaries in the Polish market. An Experiment with Facebook as an Advertising Channel for Books and Audiobooks
2016
The paper addresses the problem of using social media to promote innovative products available in online stores. Motivated by the fast development of the audiobook market, on the one hand, and the efficiency of social media marketing, on the other hand, we conducted an experiment with a marketing campaign of books and audiobooks on the most popular social networking site, Facebook, and discussed it in the paper. The goal of the experiment was exploring possible differences in FB users’ reaction to FB advertisements of traditional books and audiobooks. The experiment was implemented by using a real Facebook fanpage of a Polish publishing house having its own online bookstore. Results show so…
Tappeleva rapuhirviö : kauhun estetiikka lastenkulttuurissa
2016
Horror in picture books aimed at children appears in many forms and may be interpreted in multiple ways. It may include ghosts and monsters, nightmares and existential fears, or, violence and content labelled as “difficult”. These elements may be portrayed and interpreted as intellectually challenging and up- lifting, as cute, normal and ”not really frightening”, or as something violent and harmful or possibly empowering. In other words, cultural horror and the ways in which we discuss or use it may aim to shock, to reassure, or to entertain. The chosen way of meaning making depends on and reflects the social positioning and performative aims of the producer or interpreter. In this study, t…
La voce sommersa. Sulla poesia di Primo Levi dagli esordi all'Osteria di Brema
2016
First of all, the article proposes to divide Primo Levi’s poetic work in two main time periods: 1) from the beginnings (1945) to the publication of the first poetry book (The Bremen Beer-Hall, All’insegna del pesce d’oro, 1975); 2) from 1975 to the death of the author, occurred in 1987. This distinction mirrors the concept of a poetic itinerary which seems to be a heterogeneous studio of topics and languages originally developed, if compared with Levi’s prose. Therefore, a textual analysis of some significant poems from the first time period is proposed. An interpretation of the short unpublished correspondence between Primo Levi and his publisher Vanni Scheiwiller concerning the forthcomin…
Using Talking Books to Support Early Reading Development
2009
This chapter explores the question of how interactive multimedia talking books can promote young children’s literacy development. Whilst commercially available talking books can motivate young children to read, there is little evidence that they are linked to the development of skills known to promote reading itself. The ‘Bangers and Mash’ talking books (Chera, 2000), were designed to address this issue, and we review studies that evaluated their effectiveness as classroom resources that could promote reading-related skills and abilities. We then consider the various barriers to collaborative learning in Early Years classrooms, and describe how resources like talking books could address som…
