Analysis of oscillations in discontinuous Lurie systems via LPRS method

We discuss advantages and limitations of the harmonic balance method and the locus of a perturbed relay system (LPRS) method in the problem of finding periodic oscillations. In this paper we present the results of using harmonic balance method and LPRS method while investigating a 3rd order dynamic system in Lurie form. In this system a symmetric periodic oscillation is found, while other two asymmetric periodic motions are not found using both methods. peerReviewed

Background. This cross-sectional study investigated the associations between balance confidence, functional balance, and physical disability among older people after hip fracture. Material and methods. The study utilizes baseline data of two randomized controlled trials (ISRCTN34271567 and ISRCTN53680197). The participants were 159 community-dwelling over 60-year-old people. This study aimed to assess muscle synchronization and postural stabilizer asymmetry during quiet standing and the limits of stability using wavelet analysis. Although parental burnout has been acknowledged as a unique psychological condition that can have serious consequences to families, most research so far has been conducted with mothers. The present study investigated how the descriptions of parenting-related demands and resources differ between burned-out and non-burned-out fathers. Furthermore, we examined what kinds of support or services fathers need to increase their wellbeing as parents. Leadership practices in organizations play an important role in shaping the conditions for employees’ work-family balance. Previous research on the topic has mainly focused on women; fathers are said to receive little support from leadership for combining work and family. In this study, the focus is on men working in six Finnish organizations representing male-dominated, female-dominated and gender-balanced organizations.
