Kinematics of Cervical Spine during Rowing Ergometer at Different Stroke Rates in Young Rowers: A Pilot Study

2022

Background: Research on biomechanics in rowing has mostly focused on the lumbar spine. However, injuries can also affect other body segments. Thus, the aim of this pilot study was to explore any potential variations in the kinematics of the cervical spine during two different stroke rates on the rowing ergometer in young rowers. Methods: Twelve young rowers of regional or national level were recruited for the study. The experimental protocol consisted of two separate test sessions (i.e., a sequence of 10 consecutive strokes for each test session) at different stroke rates (i.e., 20 and 30 strokes/min) on an indoor rowing ergometer. Kinematics of the cervical spine was assessed using an iner…

Different sitting positions influence cross country sit skiers performance : Sitting position influence on force generation and cycle characteristics

2018

Cross country sit skiing is a Paralympic discipline in which athletes due to physical impairment ski sitting on a sit-ski. The impairment influences performance directly and also through sitting position. Athletes with a better trunk control usually adopt a sitting position called “kneeing” in which the hip joints are higher than the knee joints. In contrast, athletes with high impact of impairment prefer a sitting position called “knee high” in which the hip joints are lower than the knee joints. Able bodied athletes skiing on the ergometer in these two sitting positions showed different performance. However, to the best of authors’ knowledge, no studies have examined performance, force pr…

Injury and Throwing Distance in Teenage Cyclist- Vehicle Crash

2016

The study of the injury caused by vehicle-teenage cyclist crash is presented in this paper. The results of the crash with three vehicles: sedan, SUV and Pick up are compared. Three different positions are analyzed: front, rear and lateral position. The injury on the cyclist head is examined by HIC criterion, in the way indicated by the rules. A comparison is done between the results of the simulations for Pick up, SUV and sedan, concluding that the injury of the head is more dangerous for Pick-up impact than SUV or the sedan, but only at greater speed than 40 km/h. Teenage cyclist is more likely to suffer an injury to the chest in rear impacts with the sedan, because 3 ms values remain abov…

Teenage cyclist - Pick up crash by multibody simulation; HIC evaluation and comparison with previous results

2016

The study of the injury caused by Pick-up vehicle-teenage cyclist crash is presented in this paper. The vehicle has high frontal part, in order to compare the results with those obtained previously in the sedan and SUV - teenage cyclist crash. No variation is executed on the model of the teenage cyclist and the bike. Three different positions are analyzed: front, rear and lateral position. The injury on the cyclist head is examined by HIC criterion, in the way indicated in the rules. Correlation HIC – AIS is used to calculate the lethality of the injuries. A comparison is made between the results of the simulations for Pick up, SUV and sedan, concluding that the injury of the head is more d…

Longitudinal Gait Analysis of a Transfemoral Amputee Patient: Single-Case Report from Socket-Type to Osseointegrated Prosthesis

2023

The aim of the present case report was to provide a longitudinal functional assessment of a patient with transfemoral amputation from the preoperative status with socket-type prosthesis to one year after the osseointegration surgery. A 44 years-old male patient was scheduled for osseointegration surgery 17 years after transfemoral amputation. Gait analysis was performed through 15 wearable inertial sensors (MTw Awinda, Xsens) before surgery (patient wearing his standard socket-type prosthesis) and at 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-ups after osseointegration. ANOVA in Statistical Parametric Mapping was used to assess the changes in amputee and sound limb hip and pelvis kinematics. The gait symm…
