Pharmacology of Ischemia-Reperfusion. Translational Research Considerations.

2016

Ischemia-reperfusion (IRI) is a complex physiopathological mechanism involving a large number of metabolic processes that can eventually lead to cell apoptosis and ultimately tissue necrosis. Treatment approaches intended to reduce or palliate the effects of IRI are varied, and are aimed basically at: inhibiting cell apoptosis and the complement system in the inflammatory process deriving from IRI, modulating calcium levels, maintaining mitochondrial membrane integrity, reducing the oxidative effects of IRI and levels of inflammatory cytokines, or minimizing the action of macrophages, neutrophils, and other cell types. This study involved an extensive, up-to-date review of the bibliography …

A Novel Technique Using Polytetrafluoroethylene Tape to Solve Screw Loosening Complication in Implant-Supported Single Crowns

2020

This study aimed to analyze a novel technique to make screws with greater untightening resistance and to solve screw loosening in implant-supported single crowns. Thirty grade IV titanium straight abutments were screwed onto 30 external hex implants using grade IV titanium screws (30 Ncm). They were exposed to cyclic loading (300,000 cycles, 200 N). Samples were divided into 4 groups (15 samples per group): new screws (SCREW group) (control), reused screws (rSCREW group), new screws wrapped with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tape (PTFE group), and reused screws wrapped with PTFE tape (rPTFE group). Reverse torque values (RTVs) were recorded with a digitally calibrated implant motor. Mean R…

Unravelling textural heterogeneity in obsidian:shear-induced outgassing in the Rocche Rosse flow

2016

Obsidian flow emplacement is a complex and understudied aspect of silicic volcanism. Of particular importance is the question of how highly viscous magma can lose sufficient gas in order to erupt effusively as a lava flow. Using an array of methods we study the extreme textural heterogeneity of the Rocche Rosse obsidian flow in Lipari, a 2. km long, 100. m thick, ~. 800. year old lava flow, with respect to outgassing and emplacement mechanisms. 2D and 3D vesicle analyses and density measurements are used to classify the lava into four textural types: 'glassy' obsidian (<. 15% vesicles), 'pumiceous' lava (>. 40% vesicles), high aspect ratio, 'shear banded' lava (20-40% vesicles) and lo…

Optimization of a decellularized protocol of porcine tracheas. Long-term effects of cryopreservation. A histological study

2021

[EN] Objective: The aim of this study was to optimize a decellularization protocol in the trachea of Sus scrofa domestica (pig) as well as to study the effects of long-term cryopreservation on the extracellular matrix of decellularized tracheas. Methods: Porcine tracheas were decellularized using Triton X-100, SDC, and SDS alone or in combination. The effect of these detergents on the extracellular matrix characteristics of decellularized porcine tracheas was evaluated at the histological, biomechanical, and biocompatibility level. Morphometric approaches were used to estimate the effect of detergents on the collagen and elastic fibers content as well as on the removal of chondrocytes from …

A phase I dose escalation and expansion study of the next generation oral SERD AZD9833 in women with ER-positive, HER2-negative advanced breast cancer

2020

1024 Background: AZD9833 is an oral selective estrogen receptor (ER) antagonist and degrader (SERD) that has shown antitumor efficacy in a range of preclinical models of breast cancer. Methods: SERENA-1 (NCT03616587) is an ongoing Phase 1, open-label study in pre- and post-menopausal women, after ≥1 endocrine therapy and ≤2 prior chemotherapies for ER+ HER2- advanced breast cancer (ABC). The primary objective is to determine the safety and tolerability of AZD9833 once daily (QD), with dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs) in 28d defining the maximum tolerated dose. Secondary objectives include pharmacokinetics and anti-tumor response. Pharmacodynamic (PD) analysis includes ER modulation in paire…

Sorafenib: from literature to clinical practice

2013

Sorafenib is considered the standard systemic therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), in patients with well-preserved liver function (Child-Pugh A class) and advanced-stage HCC (BCLC-C) or in patients with HCC progressing after locoregional therapies, with a high grade of recommendation. The approval of sorafenib for this indication was grounded on the efficacy and the safety results reported by two international randomized, controlled trials, the SHARP and the Asia-Pacific studies. In addition, the efficacy and the safety of sorafenib in clinical practice are addressed by several field-practice experiences, including the multinational GIDEON study and the SOFIA study. Finally, further …

Ontology Views for Ontology Change Management

2014

International audience; In the literature, ontology change management systems (OCMS) are direct implementation of the concept of “change management” stated by reference (Klein, 2004). Ontology change management combines ontol- ogy evolution and versioning features to manage ontol- ogy changes and their impacts. Since 2007, many works have combined ontology evolution and versioning into ontology change management systems (OCMS). The evolution subject has been massively studied in these works. They especially addressed the consistence issue for the application of changes on the ontology. These proposals constituted a consequent background for ontology change management but they did not take i…

Data Mining of Specific-Domain Ontology Components

2008

This paper describes an approach for eliciting ontology components by using knowledge maps. The knowledge contained in a particular domain, any kind of text digital archive, is portrayed by assembling and displaying its ontology components.

Semi-automatic Derivation of Specific-Domain Ontologies for the Semantic Web

2006

This paper describes an approach for helping in the semi-automatic construction of specific-domain ontology components contained in a digital archive. This proposal for extracting knowledge from digital sources allows users to have a view of this knowledge and visualize specific-domain ontology components that with further processing can be shared with software agents by embedding it into digital archives themselves in the context of the Semantic Web. In particular, we deal with the issue of not constructing the ontology from scratch, our approach helps us to speed up the ontology creation process.

Digital protocol for creating a virtual gingiva adjacent to teeth with subgingival dental preparations.

2019

Abstract Purpose This article describes a digital technique used to record gingival emergence profiles modeled for the prosthetic restoration of teeth prepared using biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT). Materials and methods The description of the technique of intraoral recording, manipulation of digital files, and chairside protocol of prosthetic restorations is developed in the present manuscript on two anterior teeth treated with vertical and subgingival dental preparations for restoration with ceramic crowns. The manipulation of the digital files registered with an intraoral scanner with software that allows its alignment (best-fit) and the performance boolean of operatio…
