Pogranicze polsko-czeskie w perspektywie socjologicznej. Kontekst kulturowy

2016

The borderland is a specific reality, which not reduce for one culture because this culture was created by connected, penetrated or crashed culture in one social space, for example borderland language, traditions and customs or architecture. The distinctive mark of borderland are ethnic and nation minorities which define this social space. The Polish and Czech Republic borderland is being created by Polish and Czech cultures but others- Slovak, German, Moravian and Roma cultures, too. Combination prosthetic design providing a superior retention for mid-facial defect rehabilitation: A Case Report

2017

Large maxillofacial defects from malignant tumor treatment are rarely rehabilitated by surgical reconstruction alone. Ameloblastic carcinoma, a rare aggressive odontogenic malignant tumor, requires wide surgical excision to gain a tumor-free margin. In the post-surgical defect, prosthetic rehabilitation is the treatment of choice to restore function and esthetics. Moreover, an intra-oral prosthesis such as an obturator restores speech, mastication and deglutition. Retention of the obturator is a major problem while rehabilitating large defects. The existing anatomical structures from the defect with the help of magnet attachments are suitable to enhance retention, stability and support of t…

Role of toxin activation on binding and pore formation activity of the Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3 toxins in membranes of Leptinotarsa decemlineata (…

2004

AbstractBinding and pore formation constitute key steps in the mode of action of Bacillus thuringiensis δ-endotoxins.In this work, we present a comparative analysis of toxin-binding capacities of proteolytically processed Cry3A, Cry3B and Cry3C toxins to brush border membranes (BBMV) of the Colorado potato beetle Leptinotarsa decemlineata (CPB), a major potato coleopteran-insect pest. Competition experiments showed that the three Cry3 proteolytically activated toxins share a common binding site. Also heterologous competition experiments showed that Cry3Aa and Cry3Ca toxins have an extra binding site that is not shared with Cry3Ba toxin. The pore formation activity of the three different Cry…

New re-bordering left them alone and neglected: Czech cross-border commuters in German-Czech borderland

2022

The article focuses on the impact of the new re-bordering, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, on the functional, ideational and institutional dimension of cross-border integration, as perceived by the Czech cross-border commuters employed on the German side of the Euroregion Elbe Labe. The interviews with forty cross-commuters showed that they were left alone in these times of re-bordering and became victims of non-coordination between Czechia and Germany. Yet, cross-border commuting seems to have survived the first pandemic waves and the German labour market will continue to attract the Czech workforce despite that fact the pandemic has introduced a major uncertainty associated with the bord…

Vivere ai margini. Comunità rom tra i borderscapes

2016

AF/R2 adhesin and cytopathic effect as virulence traits of diarrhea-inducing Escherichia coli O103 in European rabbit

1995

Escherichia coli strains belonging to 0103:K-:H2 serovar and rhamnose negative biovars are responsible for frequent life-threatening diarrheas in weaned rabbits from national breeding units in western Europe (Blanco et al., 1994; Camguilhem and A. Milon, 1989). According to their mechanisms of pathogenesis, these strains may be considered as enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC)-like. They adhere to intestinal brush border and to HeLa cells by mean of an adhesin called AF/R2 (Adhesive Factor/Rabbit 2) (Milon et al., 1990). They do not produce known toxins (i.e. ST, LT, SLT, CNF, CLDT) (Blanco et al., 1994; Mariani-Kurkdjian et al., 1993) and bear sequences homologous to EPEC eaeA (Leroy et al., 1…

Qui…

La crimmigration e l'espulsione dello straniero-massa

2017

The article primarily aims at offering a theoretical reconstruction of the fundamen- tal characteristics of the so-called crimmigration strategy, as it appears in Italian law. The author’s main thesis is that what differentiates this strategy from the ways in which Italy has traditionally dealt with undesired foreigners is not so much the instruments that are deployed, but the way in which the foreigner him/herself is conceived: not as an individual, but as a “mass-foreigner”. The paper goes on to show how this new conception has affected the legal regulation of expulsions, as it has emerged, in Italy, during the last thirty years. Finally, the author tries to locate crimmigration within th…
