The symbiosis between Nicotiana tabacum and the endomycorrhizal fungus Funneliformis mosseae increases the plant glutathione level and decreases leaf…

2015

Over time, anthropogenic activities have led to severe cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As) pollution in several environments. Plants inhabiting metal(loid)-contaminated areas should be able to sequester and detoxify these toxic elements as soon as they enter roots and leaves. We postulated here that an important role in protecting plants from excessive metal(loid) accumulation and toxicity might be played by arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. In fact, human exploitation of plant material derived from Cd- and As-polluted environments may lead to a noxious intake of these toxic elements; in particular, a possible source of Cd and As for humans is given by cigarette and cigar smoke. We investigated …

Autophagy during development of sea urchin embryos

2009

Autophagy is a highly regulated mechanism that enhances cell eukaryotic survival under various environmental and cellular stresses, by breakdown and recycling of macromolecules and organelles. Here we report that in Paracentrotus lividus embryos autophagic process occur, at a lesser extend during physiological development and at greater levels after a cadmium treatment. By Acridine Orange staining, we found that embryonic cells exposed to cadmium display green fluorescence in cytoplasm and nucleus, and show considerable red fluorescent dots in cytoplasm. This evidence suggests formation of acidic auto-phagolysosomal vacuoles. By Neutral Red vital staining, specific for lysosomes and cellula…

Preliminary results of the project A.I.D.A. (Auto Immunity: Diagnosis Assisted by computer)

2014

In this paper, are presented the preliminary results of the A.I.D.A. (Auto Immunity: Diagnosis Assisted by computer) project which is developed in the frame of the cross-border cooperation Italy-Tunisia. According to the main objectives of this project, a database of interpreted Indirect ImmunoFluorescence (IIF) images on HEp 2 cells is being collected thanks to the contribution of Italian and Tunisian experts involved in routine diagnosis of autoimmune diseases. Through exchanging images and double reporting; a Gold Standard database, containing around 1000 double reported IIF images with different patterns including negative tests, has been settled. This Gold Standard database has been us…

Autophagy is related to apoptosis in Paracentrotus lividus embryos cadmium exposed

2012

P. lividus embryo offers an excellent opportunity to investigate the adaptive response of cells exposed to different stress. We previously demonstrated that cadmium treatment triggers the accumulation of metal in embryonic cells and the activation of defense system depending on concentration and exposure time, through the synthesis of HSPs and/or the initiation of apoptosis. Analysing autophagy, by neutral red, acridine orange and LC3-detection, we demonstrated that Cd-exposed embryos adopt this process as an additional stratagem to safeguard the developmental program. We observed that embryos treated at subletal Cd concentration activate a massive autophagic response after 18h, which decre…

¿Marxismo o diferenciación social?

2018

Tas bija labi izstrādāts kadastrs, un to izmantoja no 1691. līdz 1911. gadam, t. i., 220 gadus. Viens no pasākumiem bija …
