Liraglutide Improved Cardiometabolic Parameters More in Obese than in Non-obese Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: A Real-World 18-Month Prospective Stud…
2022
Introduction The glucagon-like peptide-1 agonist (GLP1-RA) liraglutide is currently approved for the treatment of both obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). We investigated whether the effect of this agent on cardiometabolic parameters in subjects with T2DM varied in relation to the concomitant presence of obesity. Methods One hundred thirty-five subjects (78 men and 57 women; age: 62 +/- 10 years) naive to incretin-based therapies were treated with low-dose liraglutide (1.2 mg/day) as an add-on to metformin for 18 months. Patients were divided into two subgroups based on their body-mass index (BMI): (a) obese (BMI >= 30) and (b) non-obese (BMI < 30). Clinical and laboratory analyses we…

Blutungen nach CO2-laserchirurgischer Tumorentfernung im HNO-Bereich
2004
Background: There are different reports in the literature how often postoperative hemorrhage occurs after laser resection of head-and-neck tumours. This retrospective study investigates the frequency of postoperative hemorrhage after laser surgery of head and neck tumours. Time and extent of bleeding have been considered as well as the localization of the primary tumour and possible general risk factors. Methods and Patients: Between 1998 and 2001, microscopic laser surgery was performed in 223 patients with previously untreated squamous cell carcinomas of the oral cavity, oropharynx, supraglottic and glottic region and the hypopharynx. In case of ultrasonographic or palpable evidence of ce…

Background and Aims: It has been shown in the last years that GLP-1 analogues, such as liraglutide, have several anti-atherogenic properties beyond their effects on glucose metabolism, including that on subclinical atherosclerosis. Yet, the effects of liraglutide in subjects with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are largely unknown. Materials and Methods: We included in a 8-month prospective study 29 subjects with type-2 diabetes and NAFLD (16 men and 13 women, mean age: 61±10 years), who were matched for age and gender with another group of 29 subjects with type-2 diabetes (T2DM) but without NAFLD (16 men and 13 women, mean age: 61±8 years). The diagnosis of NAFLD was based on ult…
EARLY VASCULAR AGEING IN NORMOTENSIVE SUBJECTS WITH SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS. COMPARISON WITH YOUNG HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS
2015
Objective: Aortic pulse wave velocity (aPWV), is one of the most important markers of vascular aging. It is well known that connective tissue diseases are associated with accelerated atherosclerosis, but only a few data are available about aPWV in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The aim of this study was to evaluate early vascular aging, assessed by measuring aPWV, in a group of normotensive patients with SLE and to compare these subjects with a group of young essential hypertensive (EH) individuals Design and method: Crosssectional study. We have enrolled 39 normotensive SLE subjects (mean age: 38.7±8.3 years) matched for age with a group of essential hypertensive patient…
