Immunohistochemical evaluation of metallothionein in palatal mucosal cells of mice treated with 4NQO
2006
Objective: Metallothionein (MT) may play a preventive role in various carcinogenic process. 4NQO is an alkaline compound and potent mutagen that causes the formation of DNA adducts. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the immunoexpression of MT in palatal cells of mice submitted to the carcinogen 4NQO. Study design: C57BL/6 mice received applications of 4NQO to palate for periods of 8, 16, 20 and 24 weeks (experimental group). A control group received only applications of propylene glycol for the same periods. Subsequently animals of experimental and control groups were sacrificed and the palate was histologically analysed and MT immunohistochemistry performed. Results: Although morph…
TP53 mutations and S-phase fraction but not DNA-ploidy are independent prognostic indicators in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma
2005
To prospectively evaluate the prognostic significance of TP53, H-, K-, and N-Ras mutations, DNA-ploidy and S-phase fraction (SPF) in patients affected by locally advanced laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). Eight-one patients (median follow-up was 71 months) who underwent resective surgery for primary operable locally advanced LSCC were analyzed. Tumor DNA was screened for mutational analysis by PCR/SSCP and sequencing. DNA-ploidy and SPF were performed by flow cytometric analyses. Thirty-six patients (44%) had, at least, a mutation in the TP53 gene. Of them, 22% (8/36) had double mutations and 3% (1/36) had triple mutations. In total, 46 TP53 mutations were observed. The majority (41…

Mandibular metastasis from carcinoma of the bladder: Report of a case and literature review
2022
Metastases represent about 1% of all malignant tumors of the oral region. Only 12 cases of metastases to the jawbones and 3 to the oral soft tissues from a carcinoma of the bladder are reported in the English literature. Here we report a case of an 86 year-old man with a metastasis to the anterior region of the lower jaw from a transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder treated 5 years before, all-together with a literature review.

Pringle maneuver during open partial nephrectomy for renal tumors
2017
Introduction. Sparing kidney tissue is important because studies show that patients who have their entire kidney removed are more likely to suffer from chronic kidney disease after surgery than patients who received a kidney-sparing partial nephrectomy. The aim of study is to show the effectives of Pringle maneuver for clamping renal pedicle in order to minimize warm ischemia during open partial nephrectomy. Material and method. We retrospectively analyzed 34 patients diagnosed with cT1 renal tumors between 2012 and 2016 and underwent open partial nephrectomy in Sibiu Urology Department. During the surgery we perform clamping of renal pedicle with Satinsky clamp or with the Pringle maneuver…
Bladder tumours in children: An interesting case report of TCC with a partial inverted growth pattern.
2014
Bladder urothelial carcinoma is typically a disease of older individuals and rarely occurs below the age of 40 years. There is debate and uncertainty in the literature regarding the clinicopathologic and prognostic characteristics of bladder urothelial neoplasms in younger patients compared with older patients, although no consistent age criteria have been used to define "younger" age group categories. We report on a 16 years old girl with transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder with a partial inverted growth pattern who presented with gross hematuria. Ultrasonography revealed a papillary lesion in the bladder; cystoscopic evaluation showed a 15 mm papillary lesion with a thick stalk loc…
