Dismantling and electrochemical copper recovery from Waste Printed Circuit Boards in H2SO4–CuSO4–NaCl solutions

Abstract The worldwide growing of electrical and electronic equipment makes increasingly urgent to find environmentally friendly treatments for e-waste. In this paper, the attention has been focused on i) the eco-friendly dismantling of the electronic components from Waste Printed Circuit Boards and ii) recovering of pure metallic copper, which is the most abundant metal and one of the most valuable in Printed Circuit Boards. After an experimental optimization study, we found that a solution containing 0.5 M H2SO4, 0.4 M CuSO4, and 4 M NaCl can be successfully used to disassemble the electronic components from the boards by leaching of all exposed metals. Analysis of the electromagnetic radiation generated by a multipactor discharge occurring within a microwave passive component

Graded Carrier Concentration Absorber Profile for High Efficiency CIGS Solar Cells

We demonstrate an innovative CIGS-based solar cells model with a graded doping concentration absorber profile, capable of achieving high efficiency values. In detail, we start with an in-depth discussion concerning the parametrical study of conventional CIGS solar cells structures. We have used the wxAMPS software in order to numerically simulate cell electrical behaviour. Lumped parameter approach of nonlinear networks with transistors

In this chapter we study the lumped parameter modelling of a large class of circuits composed of bipolar transistors, junction diodes and passive elements (resistors, capacitors, inductors). All these elements are nonlinear: the semiconductor components are modelled by “large signal” equivalent schemes, the capacitors and inductors have monotone characteristics while the resistors can be included in a multiport which also has a monotone description.

Anodic growth of passive layers on steel rebars in an alkaline medium simulating the concrete pores

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques have been used to study passive layers anodically grown on steel rebars in an aqueous alkaline solution simulating the electrolyte of the concrete pores. Nyquist diagrams recorded by EIS at the different stabilization potentials show a diffusional tail at low frequencies. The analysis of the impedance measurements has been made by means of an equivalent circuit with a Warburg component and within the framework of the point defect model (PDM) theory. It is observed that the calculated concentration of vacancies is a function of the potential in accordance with the theoretical prediction of the PDM.

Superior energy density through tailored dopant strategies in multilayer ceramic capacitors

The Gerson–Marshall (1959) relationship predicts an increase in dielectric breakdown strength (BDS) and therefore, recoverable energy density (Wrec) with decreasing dielectric layer thickness. This relationship only operates however, if the total resistivity of the dielectric is sufficiently high and the electrical microstructure is homogeneous (no short circuit diffusion paths). Self-assembled three-dimensional inverted photonic crystals on a photonic chip

Three dimensional photonic crystals (PhCs) exhibiting a full photonic band gap have high potential in optical signal processing and detector applications. However, the challenges in the integration of the 3D PhCs into photonic circuits have so far hindered their exploitation in real devices. This article demonstrates the fabrication of 3D PhCs exploiting the capillary directed self-assembly (CDSA) of monodisperse colloidal silica spheres, their inversion to silicon shells, and integration with silicon waveguides. Voltage-controlled current loops with nanofluidic diodes electrically coupled to solid state capacitors

[EN] We describe experimentally and theoretically voltage-controlled current loops obtained with nanofluidic diodes immersed in aqueous salt solutions. The coupling of these soft matter diodes with conventional electronic elements such as capacitors permits simple equivalent circuits which show electrical properties reminiscent of a resistor with memory. Series and parallel resonant inverters for induction heating under short-circuit conditions considering parasitic components

Series and parallel resonant inverters are the common structures in high power industrial generators for induction heating applications. In practical working conditions, short-circuit of the heating coil is very common, normally producing overvoltages that can damage the power transistors of the inverter if no special precautions are taken. The aim of the paper is to show the mechanism of how overvoltages are generated under short-circuit conditions of the heating coil for series and parallel inverters.
