2020
Purpose: The identification of the premises concerning shaping and developing logistics capabilities towards firm dynamic capabilities. Design/Methodology/Approach: The article uses an analytical approach based on the results of previous studies. Findings: Logistics capabilities can be perceived and implemented as the strategic capabilities of a firm. As a result, logistics capabilities may aspire to become the dynamic capabilities of a firm. Practical Implications: Logistics capabilities aspiring to become the dynamic capabilities of a firm play an important role in achieving the firm success as well as the firm competitive advantage. Originality/Value: The article presents the significant…
Learning, knowledge and dynamic capabilities: theoretical implications for competitiveness and innovation in the 21st century
2013
The aim of this paper is to support dynamic capabilities as a strategic tool for company management. We will begin by illustrating the evolution that can be discerned in the process of developing competitive advantage as a result of the organisation s internal analysis. In a first stage, interest was centred on understanding the nature of the firm s assets, and knowing which conditions would make it possible to turn them into lasting and sustainable sources of competitive advantage. During a second phase, interest was shifted towards the dynamic processes of generation, development and accumulation of assets. In this sense, dynamic capabilities are those which allow managers to activate and…
Linking Entrepreneurial Orientation and Firm Performance: The Role of Organizational Learning Capability and Innovation Performance
2013
This research contributes to the entrepreneurial orientation (EO)–performance literature by offering a wider picture that includes two intermediate steps: organizational learning capability (OLC) and innovation performance. This study also provides an explanation of intra-industry firm performance differences by focusing on EO. We use structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses on a data set from Italian and Spanish ceramic tile producers. The results support our conceptual model and demonstrate its usefulness in explaining differences in intra-industry firm performance. Findings suggest that OLC and innovation performance should be enhanced by managers in order to boost the positiv…
IMPLANTACIÓN INTERNACIONAL DE LOS MINORISTAS DE MODA MULTICANAL: CAPACIDADES DINÁMICAS E INCRUSTACIÓN EN LOS MERCADOS
2017
To…
The relationship between knowledge search strategies and absorptive capacity: A deeper look
2016
Abstract The present study analyzes how the breadth and depth of search strategies affect the dimensions of a firm's absorptive capacity: exploration, transformation and exploitation. Results of an analysis of a sample of 467 Spanish manufacturing firms reveal that openness of external knowledge search contributes to firms' exploratory, transformative and exploitative learning processes in different ways. In particular, a strong curvilinear effect of external knowledge search breadth on exploratory and exploitative learning was found. It is also important to establish deep relationships with external agents to achieve transformative and exploitative learning up to a certain point after whic…
The requisite match between internal resources and network ties to cope with knowledge scarcity
2020
PurposeThis paper aims to investigate the internationalization strategies of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), focusing on the interaction between network ties and “soft” internal resources at the foundation of knowledge management (KM). Specifically, it identifies the firms’ internal capabilities that affect KM strategies, and their collective influence on the degree of internationalization; verifies the influence of network ties on the internationalization process itself; and develops a conceptual “preliminary theoretical framework of SME internationalization capabilities and networks.”Design/methodology/approachThe primary research and analysis are based on a proportional stratified s…
Firms’ Absorptive Capacity for Research-Based Collaboration—an Analysis of a Norwegian R&D Brokering Policy Program
2017
The objective of this article is to explore how policy supported instruments aimed to stimulate research-based innovation influence long-term innovation activity in firms with different knowledge bases. In an effort to contribute to the renewal of existing industry, some policies aim to stimulate firms to adopt and apply research-based knowledge in innovation processes. This article includes a qualitative study of a specific ‘R&D brokering policy instrument’ in Norway aimed at increasing R&D-based innovation processes in firms. R&D brokering policy instruments include funding schemes that are designed to foster and transfer technology and knowledge between firms and research communities. Th…
Digital health technology enhances resilient behaviour: evidence from the ward
2019
PurposeIn the healthcare management domain, there is a lack of knowledge concerning the role of resilience practices in improving patient safety. The purpose of this paper is to understand the capabilities that enable healthcare resilience and how digital technologies can support these capabilities.Design/methodology/approachWithin- and cross-case research methodology was used to study resilience mechanisms and capabilities in healthcare and to understand how digital health technologies impact healthcare resilience. The authors analyze data from two Italian hospitals through the lens of the operational failure literature and anchor the findings to the theory of dynamic capabilities.Findings…
Two Views for Understanding How TQM Fosters Learning and Value Innovation: Absorptive Capabilities and Action-Based Management
2014
In the last decade some frameworks have tried to explain how to devise strategies for innovation in value by determining the needs of customers and non-customers, also creating new industries in which competition becomes irrelevant (Hax, The delta model. Reinventing your business strategy. New York: Springer, 2010; Kim and Mauborgne, Blue ocean strategy. Boston: Harvard Business School Press, 2005; Madhok and Marques 2013). These reference frameworks are based on a common set of principles: Value is created through the relationship with the customer (Priem, Acad Manag Rev 23; 219–235, 2007; Vargo and Lusch 2008); Strategy is considered to be a continuous process of exploring new opportuniti…
Assessing the impact of organizational learning capability on product innovation performance: An empirical test
2008
This paper examines how organizational learning capability affects product innovation performance. We define organizational learning capability through five dimensions or mechanisms: experimentation, risk taking, interaction with the external environment, dialogue and participative decision making. The impact of these mechanisms on product innovation performance is also analyzed. We use structural equations modeling to test our research hypotheses on a data set from the ceramic tile industry. Results support our conceptual model and underline the importance that learning has for innovation performance. Implications of the findings for both academics and practitioners are examined. © 2007 El…
