The purpose of our study was to retrospectively evaluate the sonographic, CT, and MRI findings (number, diameter, lobar location, depth from the hepatic capsule, and appearance of lesions) in a series of nine patients with pathologically proven solitary necrotic nodules of the liver and the natural evolution at follow-up in four of the nine patients.CONCLUSION. Solitary necrotic nodules are usually small, solitary lesions, mainly located under the liver capsule of the right lobe. The data from 58 hips in 29 myelodysplastic children with L3 paralysis has been reviewed retrospectively. Posterolateral transfer of the iliopsoas (Sharrard technique) was performed on all hips to correct muscle imbalance between 1975 and 1992. The average length of follow-up was 21 years. Preoperatively, 58.6% of the hips were either subluxated or dislocated (these were surgically reduced at the same stage). Radiological assessment revealed that 91.4% of the hips were stable at preschool age and 84.5% in adolescence. Of the patients 86% were functional walkers at preschool age and 75.8% in adolescence. ABSTRACT PURPOSE: To determine the feasibility of using posterior chamber phakic intraocular lenses (PIOLs) to treat high myopia, comparing two different models, Staar and Adatomed. METHODS: Twenty-four eyes from 12 patients were studied prospectively. A phakic Staar IOL was implanted in one eye of each patient, and the other eye received a phakic Adatomed IOL. Patients with uveitis or ocular trauma prior to ocular surgery, diabetic retinopathy, or capsular pseudoexfoliation were excluded. Purpose: To present some unusual MR findings in a group of patients from the south-west of the Dominican Republic suffering from Pantothenate Kinase Associated Neurodegeneration (PKAN). Materials and Methods: Twenty patients and one preclinical case homozygous for the PANK2 mutation, 13 heterozygous gene carriers and 14 healthy volunteers were scanned prospectively using a 3 Tesla system. Results: All patients showed the typical signal reduction within the globus pallidus and the substantia nigra. Purpose To evaluate the effect of trypan blue (VisionBlue) staining on the elastic properties of the human anterior lens capsule. Setting Center for Vision Science, Ruhr University Eye Hospital, Bochum, Germany. Methods Nineteen anterior capsules were obtained from 19 human eyes at the time of cataract operation. Strains of Vibrio vulnificus biotype 2, isolated from internal organs of diseased European eels as pure cultures of opaque cells, together with some reference strains from Japanese eels, were used in this study. Spontaneous translucent-phase variants were obtained from the corresponding parent strains and compared for a variety of phenotypic traits related to virulence for eels. The rate of colony dissociation from opaque to translucent cells was higher (around 10(-2)) than that observed for translucent to opaque cells (10(-3) to 10(-4)).
