AbstractWith few exceptions, parliament administrations, including secretariat officials and party group staff, have been relatively unexplored. However, a small, but growing, literature on the administration of the European Parliament (EP) indicates that officials play a role in the policy process that goes beyond technical and procedural questions. On this background, this article therefore aims at, first, finding out who the people working in the EP secretariat and group secretariats are, and, second, investigating whether it matters who these people are. Constance Reid’s recent tribute to K. O. Friedrichs (Reid 1983) undoubtedly brought back fond memories to those who knew the man and his many achievements (see also Reid 1986). It was a great pleasure for me to interview Friedrichs in January 1982, only about a year before his death. He was already in very delicate health. His wife Nellie (see Biegel 2012) was kind enough to arrange the interview, but warned me beforehand that her husband tired rather easily and was somewhat hard of hearing. In recent decades Italian historiography has been enriched by new research that has allowed us to understand the functioning of the Spanish Monarchy in the Modern Age.In particular, studies carried out on political actors who built their careers in the Mediterranean and Atlantic areas have highlighted how we can reconstruct a connected history that, starting from the individual experiences, gives due attention to both the circulation of knowledge and the relations at the local level.

This article analyses the impact of classical tradition on the artistic production of Gregorio Prieto (1897-1992), painter par excellence of the Generation of 1927. It will be discovered how this influence, far from becoming a conservative reference, would constitute an incentive for his entailment with the avant-garde, especially with surrealism. Although the classic trace is found with more intensity in the creations produced during his Roman years, between 1928 and 1929, when he also made important trips to Sicily and Greece, Greece and Rome would nevertheless continue to be constitutive of his aesthetic experience throughout his later and extensive career.

AbstractIn this study, we used the institutional logics perspective to identify the logics underpinning the tenure track career system, how the logics manifest themselves in recruitment and performance management and how academic leaders and academics negotiate between the logics. The study contributes to research on governance dynamics in academia and to universities’ organisational transformation in the context of strategic actorhood. Abstract The present study examined the stability and change in task value patterns that Finnish student-athletes (n = 391) show during their first two years in upper secondary sport school and the extent to which these patterns, and changes in them, are associated with students' future educational and athletic career aspirations . This contribution is focused on analysing the power of 'masculinization' through which traditional humanitarian storytelling has been shaped. Strongly marked by a patriarchal vision, humanitarian accounts have traditionally hidden the work of women while stressing that performed by men, who appeared represented as true protagonists and, even, as heroes.
