2016
AbstractBackgroundPostgraduate medical trainees experience high rates of burnout, but evidence regarding psychiatric trainees is missing. We aim to determine burnout rates among psychiatric trainees, and identify individual, educational and work-related factors associated with severe burnout.MethodsIn an online survey psychiatric trainees from 22 countries were asked to complete the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-GS) and provide information on individual, educational and work-related parameters. Linear mixed models were used to predict the MBI-GS scores, and a generalized linear mixed model to predict severe burnout.ResultsThis is the largest study on burnout and training conditions among p…

Competence as a Career Opportunity's Guarantor
2015

The aim of the research is to investigate the essence of the notion ”competence” and the differences in the usage of the career's terminology in semantic, methodological and pragmatic areas in academic theories of the second part of the 20 century; to work out evaluation criteria by comparing the succession of the notions capacity. The research is based on the Latvian and international sources of scientific literature – books, magazines, sources in digital form, and etc. A personality was investigated holistically ( Džarviss (Jarvis, 2010); Devis (Dove, 1976); Kross (C…
It runs in the family?
2022
AbstractFamily background has been shown to be a strong determinant of educational attainment, yet relatively little is known about the role that family background plays in PhD attainment or in the selection into academic careers. In this study, we estimate sibling correlations from Finnish full population register data to comprehensively assess the importance of family background in selection into academia. Our results show that family background accounts for over a third of the overall variation in becoming a PhD and subsequently an academic — a share which is up to four times as large as implied by conventional comparisons by parental education. However, we did not find evidence that fam…
Highest Academic Educational Expertise and Working Career
2016
21st century skills are multidimensional and highly demanding, especially in highest academic level. Academic education is facing new challenges and expectations which are set e.g. by working life and individuals in academic contexts. Universities are trying to balance between new demands and older academic traditions. Individuals in highest academic contexts are facing global change and requirements in their everyday life. Academic education should enable participation in working life and give good generic and field specialized skills. The highest academic education and working life do not share the same understanding of expertise skills. In my paper I will discuss the highest academic edu…
Working outside academia? : perceptions of early-career, fixed-term researchers on changing careers
2019
This article examines the perceptions of early-career, fixed-term researchers in Finnish universities towards changing careers. It maps out the reasons this group has considered the change and where they see themselves in five years. As a theoretical framework, a synthesisation of variables related to career change, created by Ryan, Healy, and Sullivan [2012. “Oh, Won’t You Stay? Predictors of Faculty Intent to Leave a Public University.” Higher Education 63: 421–437.], was used. The results show that the most common reasons for early-career researchers to change careers are job-security related stress, job-related dissatisfaction, and salary. Over half of the respondents would like to work…
Alakoulun ohjausta kehittämässä : teoriaa ja käytäntöä
2013
Perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteiden muk…
