The aim of the project was to find out whether shock-type vibration of hand-tools compared to non-impulsive vibration has stronger acute effects on the hand-arm system and therefore needs a stricter evaluation from the occupational health point of view in comparison with the requirements of the Draft International Standard ISO-DIS 5349. Influence of Delay Period Duration on Inhibitory Processes for Response Preparation.

In this study, we examined the dynamics of inhibitory preparatory processes, using a delayed response task in which a cue signaled a left or right index finger (Experiment 1) or hand (Experiment 2) movement in advance of an imperative signal. In Experiment 1, we varied the duration of the delay period (200, 500, and 900 ms). When transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) was applied 100 ms before the imperative, motor evoked potentials (MEPs) elicited in the first dorsal interosseous were strongly inhibited. Modulation of spinal cord excitability by subthreshold repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation of the primary motor cortex in humans.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) allows the modulation of intra-cortical excitability and may therefore affect the descending control of spinal excitability. We applied rTMS at subthreshold intensity and 1 Hz frequency for 10 min to the left primary motor cortex representation of the flexor carpi radialis muscle (FCR) in 10 subjects and assessed the H and M responses to median nerve stimulation before and after the rTMS. Following rTMS, H wave thresholds significantly reduced by ∼20%. Maximal H but not M wave amplitude significantly increased over the baseline, so that H/M amplitude ratio was increased by 41%. Abstract Background: The Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) and its shorter version, the Six-Item Carpal Tunnel Symptoms Scale (CTS-6), are widely used for assessing function and/or symptoms in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. This study examined the structural validity of the BCTQ and CTS-6 among patients who had undergone surgery for treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. En el presente trabajo se muestran y analizan los resultados de las campañas de excavación en 1997 y 1998 en la Casa 11 de la Bastilla de les Alcusses (Moixent), situada en el sector este del poblado. Al hecho de poder estudiar la casa por primera vez en su conjunto, incluvendo el patio abierto entre la casa y el camino de ronda, se añade el análisis de las muestras carpológicas y de fauna que se recogieron del vertedero hallado en este patio. Estos datos obtenidos muestran por primera vez información proveniente del uso doméstico de una vivienda de la Bastida, algo que Eire imposible en los departamentos excavados entre 1928 y 1931.

The goal of the study was therefore to determine the effects of fat-enriched diets in juvenile grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) as a typical herbivorous fish on growth and possible lipid metabolism alterations. Glycogen phosphorylase in fish muscle: demonstration of three interconvertible forms

White skeletal muscle of crucian carp contains a single isoenzyme of glycogen phosphorylase, which was purified approximately 300-fold to a specific activity of approximately 13 mumol.min-1.mg protein-1 (assayed in the direction of glycogen breakdown at 25 degrees C). Tissue extracts of crucian muscle produced three distinct peaks of phosphorylase activity when separated on DEAE-Sephacel. Peaks 1 and 3 were identified, in terms of kinetic properties and by interconversion experiments, as phosphorylase b and a, respectively. Peak 2 was shown to be a phospho-dephospho hybrid.
